Your editor is just back from a week of much-needed vacation.  While we had a few advance stories “in the can” to auto-publish during the week off, there are several items we missed while away.  This afternoon, we finally catch-up on some of those events we missed while we were out.

SYRACUSE — When NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-DT) morning anchor Christie Casciano isn’t busy with the news on television or on B104.7 (WBBS) radio, or going after criminals for the TV station’s “On the Lookout” series, you may not know she’s a “hockey mom.”  And now she’s sharing the experience of bringing up two young hockey players

SYRACUSE — The Syracuse Press Club has announced its 2010 additions to its Wall of Distinction, the club’s highest honor.  One local television manager and one recently-retired radio manager are among the honorees.

INDIANAPOLIS — First they were on the radio, then they were also on cable TV. Now, the nationally-synduicated Bob & Tom Show, carried locally in Syracuse and Watertown, and formerly in Utica, is back to being a radio-only show.

Updated — SYRACUSE — Many of the ads for Verizon’s FiOS TV service take jabs at Time Warner. Likewise, TWC points out many services it offers, that Verizon does not. But one major difference has been eliminated: a deal announced today means FiOS customers will be able to watch many SU games that were previously available

SYRACUSE — Statewide and regional coverage of Syracuse University Athletics will be expanding almost immediately thanks to a new deal the school has signed with SNY, the sports network that’s already well-known for carriage of New York Mets baseball, Jets football, and the Big East Conference.

SYRACUSE — Observant CNYRadio.com readers have noticed something interesting on their TV screens: program listings for WSYR-DT’s 9.2 subchannel show timeslots devoted to local hosts from Newsradio 570 WSYR… but so far, neither host has appeared on TV during their respective listed timeslots. Updated 9/15 at 5:45pm.

SYRACUSE — Vinny Lopez, Director of Engineering at Fox 68 (WSYT) and My43 (WNYS) has been re-elected as President for the Society of Broadcast Engineers. The new one-year term begins next month at SBE’s annual membership meeting.

SYRACUSE — One of the biggest syndicated lineup changes in Syracuse TV already took place last month, when Channel 5 (WTVH-DT) managed to snatch Live! with Regis and Kelly away from Channel 9 (WSYR-DT). But a few more changes are set to take place, specifically during the 7pm “access hour.”

New info added 9/1 – SYRACUSE — Clear Channel country station B104.7 (WBBS) and “a Syracuse-area television weatherman” are mentioned in a report by the New York State Inspector General’s Office regarding allegations of corruption against former New York State Fair Director Peter Cappuccilli, Jr. and other past and present Fair officials.
