SAN ANTONIO, TX -- CC Media Holdings, Inc. released its first quarter earnings report for 2009 today, and -- similar to last week's reports from Regent and Citadel -- the results are not positive. The nation's largest radio group says revenue fell 23% compared to last year's first quarter -- and the company also posted a $428 million loss.
SYRACUSE -- Less than two weeks after WWHT/WPHR program director Butch Charles was laid off by Clear Channel, the replacement for his on-air shift at Power 106.9 has been named -- it's the syndicated Keith Sweat Hotel.
SYRACUSE -- The religious Mars Hill Network (WMHR/WMHI/WMHQ) continues to celebrate 40 years on the air by bringing another prominent Christian recording artist to Central New York for a live concert performance.
SYRACUSE -- Y94FM (WYYY) is one of 17 Clear Channel stations nationwide being dropped from the prestigious Radio & Records chart reporting panel as of May 15th. The trade publication says those stations "are musical carbon copies," which is a violation of R&R's chart policies.
Citadel Broadcasting's first quarter financial report for 2009 looks no better than Regent's -- the company posted a 22.9% decrease in revenue compared to last year, and it declared that it will not be offering quarterly earnings calls or earnings-related press releases at all this year with the latest app for paying employees online.
Regent was one of two major broadcasting companies to give its first quarter financial statement on Friday, and the news was not good. The company posted a $32.5 million loss for the first three months of the year, compared to a $3.0 million loss in the same period of 2008.
SYRACUSE -- Even if you're not a big fan of public TV, chances are good you've heard one way or another that WCNY-TV's big televised auction, "TelAuc" for short, has been going on the past few weekends. And throughout the auctions, some local radio personalities have stopped in to help drum up support.
SYRACUSE -- They filled in once last summer -- and now, it looks like 93Q (WNTQ) morning duo Ted & Amy will be getting much more face time in front of the cameras on WSYR-TV's Bridge Street, starting tomorrow morning.
Updated 5/6 at 8:30pm - SYRACUSE -- There was no programming on 105.1 by the end of Tuesday, as we were originally led to believe, but we have official confirmation that the station will simulcast WVOA's "Love Radio" format when it returns to the airwaves.
SYRACUSE -- We all knew it would happen sooner or later -- Nova 105.1 (WWDG) and its "90s and now" format are gone from the local airwaves. The station signed off the air this afternoon and now sits silent, waiting for its new owner to take control.
