Jason Kidd heads back to Baltimore

Jason Kidd is on the move again.

The former Hot 107-9 (WWHT) program director and afternoon jock is headed back to his hometown of Baltimore where he'll take on programming duties at Clear Channel's Smooth Jazz WSMJ 104.3.

Kidd left Hot 107-9 for KISS 96-1 (WKST) in Pittsburgh in February 2002.

Rush Limbaugh subject of drug investigation

It's been a bad week for Rush Limbaugh.

The latest controversy involving the conservative radio talk show host is a report that he is being investigated for allegedly buying thousands of addictive painkillers from a black-market drug ring.

Limbaugh's show airs locally on 570 WSYR and WIBX 950.

Limbaugh quits ESPN over McNabb remarks

Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh has resigned from his position at ESPN following comments he made about former Syracuse University football quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Limbaugh said on ESPN television that "the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well", implying that the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is getting special treatment because of his race.

Joel Delmonico to address press club

Clear Channel Communications' Syracuse market manager, Joel Delmonico, will address members of the Syracuse Press Club this Wednesday.

Delmonico should have plenty to talk about. The ongoing battles over media ownership, Newhouse Dean David Rubin's criticisms of 570 WSYR, Clear Channel's partnership with Destiny USA, and this week's changes at Hot 107-9 (WWHT) and Power 106.9 (WPHR) have all made headlines recently.

The SPC sponsored event gets underway Wednesday at noon at the Museum of Science and Technology (The MOST).

Power 106.9 shifts its format

Power 106.9 (WPHR) has switched formats to urban adult contemporary.

The station's program director, Butch Charles, also picks up programming duties for sister Clear Channel station Hot 107-9 (WWHT), replacing Erin Bristol who stays on as program director of New Rock 105 (WWDG).

Power 106.9 has been Syracuse's only urban station since it switched from a jazz format in September 2000.

Bob O'Dell lands in Canton, Ohio

Former 95X (WAQX) program director and afternoon jock Bob O'Dell is heading west to Canton, Ohio where he's landed a similar position with Rock 107 (WRQK). His first day is October 3.

The station was ranked 4th in overall 12+ numbers in the latest Arbitron book. Canton's market rank is 129.

Another frequency for 'The Border'?

Clancy-Mance Communications has applied for a call letter change for its station at 92.7 FM in Ogdensburg, and in those new letters is a hint of what other changes may be on the horizon.

The change from WPAC to WBDB seems to point to a possible switch in format and a simulcast of 'The Border' network which already includes Watertown area stations WBDR 102.7 FM and WBDI 106.7 FM.

Lawsuit filed in the death of Rick Gary's daughter

Antoinette Flegal, the administratrix of the estate of her daughter, Jessica, who died last year in a LaFayette auto accident, has filed a $2 million lawsuit against the estate of the driver of the car involved. Jessica's father, Rick Flegal, is Syracuse radio and television veteran Rick Gary.
