Jim Knapp leaving WIBX for WGY

It's been a busy week over at WIBX AM 950 in Utica-Rome.

On the heels of news director Scott Carr's move to Raleigh-Durham comes word that afternoon anchor Jim Knapp is headed to Albany's WGY. That's good news for WIBX SportsWatch producer and news reporter Jonathan Meyer who has been promoted to a full-time news position.

Knapp's last day in Utica is this Friday.

The New York State Broadcasters Association and the radio and television stations in Syracuse are sponsoring a free broadcasting career fair this Thursday, September 18 from 4-7 p.m. at the Carousel Center Skydeck. Station personnel will be on hand to talk about all aspects of the radio and television industry, including: sales, marketing, promotions, engineering, on-air work, and more.

FCC: Stern show is a 'bona fide' news program

Howard Stern's raunchy syndicated morning show is a "bona fide news interview" program according to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC), the same organization that, in the past, has fined the shock jock $1.7 million dollars for obscene broadcasts.

Scott Carr leaving WIBX

WIBX AM 950 is losing its news director and morning anchor. Scott Carr, who also served as the station's program director, is relocating with his family to the Raleigh-Durham area.

Carr's Utica-Rome radio career includes stints on Bill Keeler's Rock 107 (WRCK) morning show, overnights on Lite 98.7 (WLZW) in the mid '90s, and middays/music director duties at the now-defunct KG 104 (WKGW).

No replacement has been named yet.

Time Warner cancels Ted & Amy

Time Warner Cable has decided to drop eight weekly programs that it produces locally in order to focus their efforts on a new regional sports channel and the launch of its 24-hour local news channel.

One of the casualties is the weekly arts and entertainment show Ted & Amy hosted by 93Q (WNTQ) morning hosts Ted Long and Amy Robbins.

WSYR remembers 9/11

To mark the 2nd anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, 570 WSYR is presenting a special one-hour program Thursday at 5 p.m.

The locally produced show, "9/11... Two Years After Tragedy," will include an exclusive interview with a Central New York man who lost his wife, an update on whether we are safer now than two years ago, and the latest on a petition to honor those who gave their lives to save others.

Dale Dorman moves to Boston's Oldies 103

Former Syracuse jock Dale Dorman has found a new radio home in Boston.

Dorman, 63, who was benched last month after 23 years at Kiss 108 (WXKS), will tackle mornings at crosstown Oldies 103 (WODS) starting September 18.

A verteran of the Beantown radio market, Dale began his radio career in the mid '60s at WOLF 1490 AM in Syracuse.

Bill Baker narrates movie palace documentary

WCNY TV 24 takes a look back at Central New York's great movie palaces of the past in the 90-minute documentary "Central New York's Picture Palaces" airing tonight at 8 p.m.

The show, hosted by WCNY's midday radio host, Bill Baker, and Karen Colizzi Noonan, president of the Theatre Historical Society of America, explores the history of the elaborately designed theatres, why some suffered the fate of the wrecking ball, and how a few, like The Landmark in Syracuse and The Stanley in Utica have survived.

WSYR replaces Laura Ingraham with Phil Hendrie

With Laura Ingraham's move to TalkRadio 1050 (WFBL) earlier this week, 570 WSYR has filled the conservative talker's evening time slot with The Phil Hendrie Show.

Hendrie got his start in radio as a disc jockey and made the jump to talk radio in 1990 with a program that, according to his website, "exposes the media for what it is" and "is about poking a little fun at ourselves."

Hendrie's show airs weeknights at 10 p.m.
