SYRACUSE — New call letters are in effect today for Citadel’s AM 1260. According to Operations Manager Tom Mitchell, the former WNSS is now officially identified as WSKO. The new calls fit in with the station’s new branding, as “The Score 1260.”

SYRACUSE — Regular fans of Gomez & Dave in the Morning on Syracuse’s TK99/105 (WTKW/WTKV) and Utica’s WOUR may recall recently hearing co-host Dave Coombs had thyroid surgery.  If you haven’t seen, here’s Dave in post-op recovery:

UTICA-ROME — The Galaxy Communications cluster in Utica (well, technically, the Washington Mills area of New Hartford) is looking for a new local sales manager, according to a job posting we spotted today.

SYRACUSE — Less than a year after he was reinstated to morning drive — following a two-year absence in the market — syndicated talker Don Imus will once again be dropped from the lineup at WHEN.

Updated 1/27 at 4:00pm -SYRACUSE — It appears that both FM translators that will soon be part of Galaxy Communications’ ESPN Radio affiliation are ready for the change, more than a month in advance.  The translator at 97.7FM (W249BC/Mattydale) has switched from simulcasting K-Rock (WKRL) to simulcasting future ESPN Radio anchor WTLA (1200).

SYRACUSE and UTICA-ROME — The New ESPN Radio 97.7 and 100.1 FM haven’t even launched yet, but owner Galaxy Communications is announcing some big additions to their programming lineups: namely, coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament this spring and live coverage of New York Giants games next season.

SYRACUSE — Plenty of local musicians will have the chance to spread some holiday cheer over the airwaves during Big Mike’s “28th Annual Live Christmas Broadcast” this Tuesday morning.  You can attend the show in person at Driver’s Village in Cicero (admission and breakfast are free) or listen on Sunny 102.1 (WZUN).

FLORIDA — A former owner of WSGO(AM) and the man who started WGES-FM has died.  Robert Gessner was 86 years old when he passed away in Florida.  Today, you might know WGES-FM better as WTKV, the Oswego-based repeater of Galaxy classic rocker TK99 (WTKW).  Dave Bullard has a complete profile on Gessner’s accomplishments at oswegocountytoday.com.

SYRACUSE — Starting in March, there will be a new home for ESPN Radio.  Galaxy Communications is not only taking over the network affiliation from Citadel’s WNSS 1260 — the company will be offering ESPN’s programming on the FM band, and it will bring the Spanish-language programming of ESPN Deportes into the market.
