UTICA/ROME -- Big Frog 104 (WFRG) is looking to replace an impending hole in its Sunday morning lineup. Lon Helton's "Country Countdown USA" program is being cancelled by its syndicator, Cumulus-owned Westwood One. The show's final episode will air on July 31.
UTICA-ROME -- Last month's unexpected removal of longtime Big Frog 104 (WFRG) morning host Matt Herkimer has had a ripple effect throughout the market. It looks like the dust is finally settling, after a round of "musical chairs" between WFRG and sister Oldiez 96.1 (WODZ).
UTICA-ROME -- Longtime residents of the Mohawk Valley might remember that the country format on Big Frog 104 (WFRG) has been around since 1988... but it wasn't called "Big Frog 104," nor was it located at 104.3FM until 1993. This week, a lucky find at a garage sale takes us back to the earliest years […]
UTICA/ROME -- After roughly two months of "filling in" as the morning host on Oldiez 96.1 (WODZ), Davey Jones has been named the station's permanent morning host and brand manager. Station owner Townsquare Media announced the promotion late last week. Jones has worked in various capacities within the four-station cluster since late 2009.
UTICA/ROME -- It's one of the many ways local broadcast radio gives back to the community. The 11th annual Children's Miracle Network radiothon on Lite 98.7 (WLZW) raised $29,000 over a two-day period this week. Every single dollar raised will directly benefit pediatric and maternity services at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in Utica.
CENTRAL NEW YORK -- All this week we're celebrating the 10th anniversary of CNYRadio.com with a series of special reports. Yesterday, several folks who've been in local radio for 10+ years explained why they feel consolidation was "the" biggest story from the past decade. Despite the negative side of consolidation, most radio pros are optimistic for what's […]
UTICA/ROME -- We're a week behind on this one, but with all the big news going on last week (and all sorts of holiday festivities), we simply ran out of time to write a Picture of the Week article. So, for a moment, let's all pretend it's Christmas time once again, as one Utica/Rome radio […]
UTICA-ROME -- It's a move we don't see often, especially in the current economic climate: a syndicated show being replaced by a local personality. That actually happened this week on the two Kiss-FM stations (WSKS/WSKU) owned by Roser Communications Network.
UTICA/ROME -- Two personalities who exited Kiss-FM (WSKS/WSKU) within two days of each other in September have found new jobs in radio. Former middayer Jesse Jordan has been hired for the same daypart in a significantly larger market down the Thruway, while former night jock "Intern Dave" drops his nickname to fill some shifts at […]
