CENTRAL NEW YORK -- It's awards season for local media! The Radio/Television Digital News Association recently announced its regional winners, and the Syracuse Press Club recently announced its full slate of award winners, recognizing excellence in journalism during 2009.
SYRACUSE -- The slate of Syracuse Press Club Award winners has been announced... and not one commercial radio station appears on the list. In fact, all of the radio awards -- including the Career Achievement Award -- are being divvied up amongst two public stations.
The Syracuse Press Club handed out its annual awards at a dinner on April 16. WSYR and WAER picked up four awards each, while WRVO received three honors.
570 WSYR's news director and director of programming, Bill Carey, has been honored by the Syracuse Press Club with a Bliven-Ganley-Rossi Career Achievement Award. Carey returned to radio last year after a long run in television news at WTVH TV 5 and WIXT TV 9.
