Clear Channel is revealing some of the new initiatives being rolled out at the current round of managers' meetings in Texas. And, despite the fears and rumors, "mass layoffs" is not on the list. Rather, the company is rolling out some new ways to increase localism.
SYRACUSE -- For at least the second year in a row, the morning show crew at B104.7 (WBBS) has received a nomination for the Academy of Country Music awards. And a programmer who used to work in Utica and Watertown gets a nomination for his current station in Albany.
UTICA-ROME -- The Arbitron Persons 12+ numbers for the Fall 2008 ratings period are out. Regent's Big Frog 104 (WFRG) and Lite 98.7 (WLZW) still own the top 2 ranks, but the duo traded ranks as Lite loses nearly 3 ratings points since the spring.
WATERTOWN -- For the first time since Fall 2004, Arbitron has lifted its embargo on the Persons 12+ numbers for the Watertown market. One thing that clearly hasn't changed since 2004: country music is still king in the North Country.
SYRACUSE -- Sportsradio 620 WHEN sports director Jim Lerch is confirmed to be among the 1,800 fired nationwide by Clear Channel today. Overall, the company says it has cut 9% of its staff. Most of the cuts reportedly came from sales, but quite a few, like Lerch, came from the programming side.
SYRACUSE -- It won't be long before the recently-retired-from-TV Dave Eichorn is back on the airwaves of Central New York. The popular meteorologist will provide forecasts for Y94FM (WYYY) starting in January.
Rich Lauber, Operations Manager at Clear Channel Syracuse, is one of 17 people to be honored with the company's "2008 Performance Excellence Awards."
Syracuse's B104.7 (WBBS) has been nominated in both of the broadcast award categories for the 2008 Country Music Awards. The station is up for one award, and morning co-hosts Ron Bee and Becky Palmer are up for their own award.
Sorry we're a few days late on this one -- it's the first time we've had really good internet access during our summer vacation, so we just noticed Arbitron has released the P12+ ratings for the Syracuse and Utica-Rome markets. It appears Clear Channel's WBBS (B104.7) and Regent's Lite 98.7 (WLZW) are the clear winners in […]
