Family Claims New WOKR Tower Location Unsafe

June 16, 2009 by

UTICA-ROME -- A family from the Town of Floyd says the new tower for God's Country 93.5 (WOKR) is so powerful, the audio comes through one of their TVs, even when the set is powered off.  An engineering firm hired by the town says radiation levels are so high, it's dangerous anyone to be inside for more than 30 minutes a day.

The Utica Observer-Dispatch has more details on how the controversy started, and what town leaders are doing to get the FCC to come assess the situation for itself.

The paper says it was unable to get an official comment from the company that owns the tower itself.  It says WOKR's owner, Educational Media Foundation, claims it also has been in contact with the FCC, but thought any initial interference problems were already resolved.
