UTICA-ROME -- Galaxy Communications has announced former Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts and his current band, Great Southern, will headline the schedule at Classic Rock 96.9 WOUR's "Party in the Park" concert on July 21. Admission is free and a number of local bands are also expected to perform.
Organizers say the concert will take place in downtown Utica's Hanna Park, starting at 5pm. WOUR PD Mimi Griswold tells CNYRadio.com, "Dickey Betts puts on one of the best classic rock shows I have ever seen." She adds, "Hanna Park will be the perfect setting... and it's perfect pricing... absolutely free!"
Betts spent more than 30 years with the Allman Brothers Band, writing or co-writing many of their hits, including titles like "Blue Sky," "Ramblin' Man" and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed." He still performs those titles and others when he tours with Great Southern.
Griswold says WOUR is still working on the local band lineup. Once everything's finalized, it'll be posted on the station's website.

Betts was one of the shows last year that TK99 sponsored at Syracuse's inner harbor.
