SYRACUSE -- Today and tomorrow will be the last two days you'll have a chance to catch Anthony Adornato in his old seat behind the anchor desk on Today in Central New York on NBC3 (WSTM). He agreed to fill-in alongside Lisa Spitz for the first two weeks of regular anchor Megan Coleman's maternity leave (as reported here earlier, she had a son, Harry, over the weekend). With his time almost up, viewers are wondering... who's next? Last night, the station revealed another former local TV journalist will be helping out.
On the CNY Central Facebook page, a status update and a photo announced former NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) reporter Kelly French has accepted the invitation to make a brief return to the world of TV news.
Similar to the arrangement where Adornato was paired with Spitz, the station will also give French a co-anchor -- it's moving weeknight anchor and managing editor Matt Mulcahy to the wake-up shift "for a couple of weeks."
French was just back on channel 9 a little less than a month ago -- not as a reporter or an anchor. In a story preceding the 100th anniversary of the RMS Titanic tragedy, reporter Jeff Kulikowsky interviewed French about her great-grandparents, who were passengers on the ship and survived to tell the tale.
No word yet on whether there will be more "Syracuse TV news comebacks" in the weeks after French's turn is over. It's worth noting, however, that the May sweeps period conducted by TV ratings giant Nielsen started last week, and it continues through May 23.
