Less than two weeks after WFLR-FM changed its frequency, call letters and format to bring CHR to the long-CHR-deprived Ithaca market, it suddenly has a new competitor.

Standards fans may have noticed some recent changes on WTLA 1200 Syracuse and WSGO 1440 Oswego.  It’s because both stations have recently switched networks — another result of the recent merger between Jones Radio Networks and Dial Global.

Doug Stephan is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his syndicated morning talk show, “Doug Stephan’s Good Day.”  Locally, Newsradio 950 WIBX/Utica carries the show on Saturday mornings.  Doug’s website has a 20th anniversary page with highlights from the past 2 decades.

Starting later this week, Newsradio 950 WIBX’s local talk show First Look will have the chance to gain some new… viewers.  Yes, viewers.  Every Friday in October, the show will be videotaped for re-broadcast on TV.

More ink for TK99/TK105/WOUR middayer Dave Frisina.  A little over four months after making the cover of the Syracuse NewTimes, Frisina’s 30-year career in Syracuse radio is being documented by the national trade publication, Radio & Records.

Last week, we told you how the merger of Jones Radio Networks and Dial Global will result in the termination of the syndicated country overnight “Danny Wright All Night” show by the end of the year.  Today, Watertown’s Froggy 97 (WFRY) has unveiled its plan for 2009.

Ithaca news/talker WHCU (870 AM) debuts a brand new program this morning.  “All Things Equal” is described by the station as a “new weekly radio show on community conversations over race, class and diversity.”

Syracuse University’s WAER 88.3 FM is this week’s new addition to Scott Fybush’s “Tower Site of the Week” website.  Regular readers know the page is more than just info about the station’s tower… you can get a peek inside the studios, and a brief history of the station.

Longtime WCNY-FM personality and manager Don Dolloff has announced his retirement, effective October 7th.  The retirement date coincides with the end date for Classic FM’s current pledge drive.

All aboard for a boat ride to… nowhere?  Mr. Froggy from Froggy 97 (WFRY/Watertown) was recently caught on-camera taking a break from his duties as the Watertown country station’s mascot.
