CENTRAL NEW YORK -- Spare time has been sparse for your editor lately, but we have a handful of newsworthy items from the world of CNY radio and TV news to share.  Here's a quick recap:

UTICA-ROME - Townsquare's 950 WIBX has borrowed a page from the playbook of many other news/talk stations on the AM dial, by adding an FM simulcast. Translator W295DI was officially licensed by the FCC as of December 27, allowing listeners to hear WIBX at 106.9 FM.

UTICA/ROME -- After 43 years in radio -- the last 15 of them on mornings at Big Frog 104 (WFRG) -- Bill McAdams (a/k/a "Tadpole"), is getting ready to hang up his headphones. And the station that often tops the Utica-Rome ratings charts already has a replacement lined up.

SYRACUSE — Sinclair Broadcast Group's CNY Central is looking for a news video editor. The cluster, consisting of NBC3 (WSTM), CBS 5 (WTVH) and CW6 (WSTM-DT 3.2) sends the following job posting to CNYRadio:

UTICA/ROME — A nice way to top-off the holiday season... A promotion to Team Leader for Galaxy Media's Jen Major-Quinn.

The following statement was provided to CNYRadio by Galaxy Media:

Jen Major-Quinn has been promoted to Team Leader of Galaxy Media’s Utica office. In this new role, Jen will provide guidance and leadership to the Utica team, while also overseeing goals and budgets for that office. Throughout her six years with the company, Jen has played an active role in its growth. Prior to her promotion, Jen was a Senior Account Executive for Galaxy.

“Jen continues to be a role model within our company,” said Ed Levine, President and CEO of Galaxy Media. “We’re excited to elevate Jen to a leadership role as we further develop our team. SYRACUSE -- Very sad news from NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) tonight. The ABC affiliate is reporting the death of longtime anchor Rod Wood, just a day after his 81st birthday. Click here for more details on LocalSYR.com.

UTICA/ROME -- Longtime local radio broadcaster Lloyd Walsh, perhaps best known for calling Colgate University football games on the former WRUN 1150, died this past Wednesday. Walsh was less than a month away from his 100th birthday, which would've been just after New Year's.

SYRACUSE -- NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) anchor Dan Cummings has held many titles at the ABC affiliate over the past 37 years. By the time we bid farewell to 2021, he'll assume a new title: retiree. Cummings announced his exit plans this week on The Morning News.

SYRACUSE -- Galaxy Media Partners, which owns radio stations in Syracuse and Utica, has named Carrie Veley is new Director of Development - Multi-Platform Strategies. The official press release from Galaxy follows:

Updated 1:30pm to include additional info and audio: SYRACUSE -- "The Caveman" has left the building... and so has his news anchor. Nick Caplan, longtime PD and morning host of 95.3/103.9 The Dinosaur (WSEN) announced today was his last day at the locally-owned classic top 40 station. Across the studio desk, news anchor Chris Weidman said he's been contemplating retirement for some time, and Caplan's exit prompted him to hang up his headphones as well.
