Hot 107-9 adds new morning co-host

Marty's 'one man party' in the morning on Hot 107-9 (WWHT) has a new co-host. Syracuse native Shannon Wells is heading north from 'The Zone' (WOZN) in Greensboro, North Carolina where she's done middays for the past year. Before that, Wells had worked weekends at WXKS in Boston.

Jeanne Ashley profiled on All Access

Jeanne Ashley left Y94FM (WYYY) five years ago this month for Kansas City, and from the sounds of it, things seem to be going well.

Ashley, who handled Y94FM's midday shift from 1997-99 after stints at K-Rock (WKLL) and Lite 98.7 (WLTW) in Utica-Rome, is now the midday jock and music director at Kansas City's Star 102 (KSRC).

WIBX debuts new local talk show

John Dote's daily hour of local morning talk on WIBX came to an end last week.

Dote's show, Behind the Headlines, has been replaced by a new local magazine show called First Look which airs weekday mornings at 8 a.m. and is hosted by Jim Rondenelli and Dave Andrews.

Station management had given Dote the option to move his show to sister station WRUN, but he declined.

WKLL to simulcast WTLB

WKLL 94.9 FM is cranking it down a few notches in Utica-Rome. The former modern rock station, which had been simulcasting Galaxy Communications' K-Rock (WKRL) signal out of Syracuse, will switch to WTLB's adult standards format and WTLB-FM call letters on Monday.

WKLL, WTLB, and WRCK were all recently purchased from Galaxy by Route 81 Radio which yesterday announced they have no plans to changes formats on WTLB or WRCK.

Stern's banishment could cost stations millions

Some financial analysts are projecting that a continued shift away from shock radio and the ripple effects of such a move could cost radio owners millions of dollars.

CNN reports that some experts are predicting Clear Channel's losses could near $12.4 million due to Howard Stern's banishment. They also concede that a financial hit in that range for a company the size of Clear Channel would have a minimal effect on the media giant's bottom line.

Utica K-Rock simulcasting Rock 107

Following last month's announcement that Galaxy Communications is selling its Utica-Rome stations to Route 81 Radio, it looks like that transition has begun.  Over the weekend, Galaxy switched its WKLL 94.9 FM simulcast of K-Rock to sister station Rock 107 (WRCK). There's no official word yet on what formats Route 81 Radio has planned for WKLL, WRCK, and WTLB.

Syracuse stations react to indecency uproar

Howard Stern is still on the air in Syracuse, but radio programmers and management across the board are evaluating what the recent FCC and Congressional broadcast indecency hearings mean for their respective stations.

The Syracuse Post-Standard got reactions from local employees of Clear Channel, Citadel, and Galaxy radio groups.
