With a 1.8 point increase in 12+ ratings, 570 WSYR has moved into a tie for second place with 93Q in the latest monthly trend numbers for Syracuse released today by Arbitron. WARM gets 'Kool' in Utica

There's a new oldies station in Utica-Rome. WARM 93.5 flipped from adult contemporary to Super Hits of the 60s and 70s to become Kool 93.5 FM. Along with the switch comes a call letter change for the Clear Channel station from WRFM to WUCL. Legendary morning man Greg McShea takes over mornings, with current WARM morning host Jack Moran moving to middays.

WXBB flips to alternative rock, WWDG

It's 'New Rock 105, The Dog' for WXBB 105.1 FM. The Clear Channel station in Deruyter, which had been simulcasting B104.7's country signal for the past year and a half, changed its tune this morning. The station kicked off with Eminem's 'Cleaning Out My Closet'. Look for a call letter change to WWDG around the first of the year. Check out the station's new web site at www.newrock105.com.

Dr. Laura's mother found murdered

Dr. Laura Schlessinger said today that she was horrified over the "tragic circumstances" of the recent death of her mother. Yolanda Schlessinger was apparently murdered in her home a few weeks ago; her body was not discovered until this week. The famed radio talk show host, who had been estranged from her mother for years, is taking the rest of the year off.

Happy holidays from WXBB

WXBB 105.1 FM earlier this week pulled the plug on its simulcast of B104.7 (WBBS) in favor of 'round the clock holiday music. The on-air liners seem to hint that the Clear Channel station may not be switching back to 'today's best country' come December 26. Only time will tell, but until then, it's yet another station on which we can catch the holiday barking dogs.

WTLB's Bob O'Donnell dies of cancer

Former WTLB midday personality Bob O'Donnell passed away recently in Bonita Springs, Florida after a battle with cancer. O'Donnell, who worked at the Utica station during their Top 40 days of the late 60s and early 70s, originally made his mark as part of a folk music trio, The Windgate Singers. After his run at WTLB, he headed for Nashville to pursue a music career. O'Donnell was 59.
