After besting 40 other Central New York bands in a tour de force competition a few months back, Dogs on Mars is ready to kick off this year's K-Rockathon with a twenty minute set in front of a crowd expected to top thirty-thousand. This week's Syracuse New Times has a profile of the band and their thoughts on a shot at the big time this Sunday.

Jim Rome is expected to leave his gig at Fox Sports when his contract expires later this year. The New York Post reports that ESPN is in negotiations with the sports commentator in hopes of grabbing him for a new weekly show for the network. Locally, Rome can be heard weekday afternoons on SportsRadio 620 (WHEN).
Oswego County health officials expect to decide today whether to allow the K-Rockathon modern rock festival, scheduled Sunday at the Oswego Speedway. Michael Rosen, Oswego County Deputy Health Commissioner, said Galaxy Communications and Pro Events are meeting all of their obligations, but ideally the promoter should have been working with the county months before the event.
This year's K-Rockathon is expected to be the biggest outdoor rock festival of the summer in the area. The Syracuse New Times has details on how the list of bands for the July 14 event at the Oswego Speedway came together.

Condolences are being offered to the family of Judy Krauss, 53, who died Tuesday after a long battle with cancer. Krauss was WRVO's donor services manager and wife of station manager John Krauss. Contributions may be made to the WRVO Endowment Fund.
Following yesterday's not guilty verdict in the assault trial of DeShaun Williams, the alleged victim, Hot 107-9's Nicole Wilcox, viewed the experience as a personal victory, saying, "I feel like I won. I stood up for myself. The next time he goes to raise his fist to hit a girl maybe he'll think twice." In defending her claim that Williams hit her during an altercation at a bar, an accusation Williams denied, Wilcox said, "Lies are easier to believe than the truth because the truth is gray."
570 WSYR is atop the ratings heap thanks to a 1.6 ratings points jump which nudged B104.7 out of its familiar number one slot in the 12+ ratings. Hot 107.9 took the biggest hit with a 2 point drop. The numbers are monthy trends and are not necessarily indicators of the quarterly ratings due out next month.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday in Atlanta for Keith Eubanks who died on Saturday from complications of pneumonia. Eubanks, who was 38, was a well-known national audio production and voiceover talent who voiced the sweepers and imaging of Hot 107-9 in the mid 90s.

Hot 107-9 morning co-host Nicole Wilcox was in Syracuse City Court yesterday to testify in the assault trial of Syracuse University basketball player DeShaun Williams. Commenting on the cut she received above her eye during the altercation, Wilcox testified, "I'm not a wuss, but it hurt." Several other witnesses said they never saw Williams land a punch.
