Public stations' ratings return to pre-9/11 levels

In Arbitron ratings released yesterday for public radio stations in the Syracuse market, the WRVO stations maintained their comfortable lead over Classic FM and Jazz 88 respectively. All three stations were down for the winter 2002 ratings quarter after seeing an increase in listenership following the September 11 terrorist attacks. O'Reilly debuts today, biggest launch in radio history

Fox New Channel's Bill O'Reilly makes his national radio debut today. With a record-setting 216 stations on board, The Radio Factor, syndicated by Westwood One, is being touted as the biggest launch in the history of talk radio. WHEN to launch new show, details a mystery

SportsRadio620 WHEN is set to debut a new show called Bud and the Manchild. Promos running on the station to hype the program don't provide many details, and the station's web site hints only that the new talk formatted show will feature "two forces mind-melding to create something totally unique." 93Q wins WSTM viewer poll

As part of WSTM TV 3's latest "Best of Central New York" viewer poll, 93Q took away top honors for best radio station. The contemporary hits formatted station edged rival Hot 107-9 which came in second, while market leader B104.7 was third.

WFBL to switch to news-talk

The first radio format change of the year in the Syracuse market happens Wednesday when Buckley Radio's WFBL 1050 AM switches from adult standards to news-talk. Included in the new lineup are Westwood One's Bill O'Reilly, ABC's Sean Hannity, and from WOR, Dr. Joy Browne and the Dolans. Buckley Radio owns 18 stations nationwide including WFBL's sister station Oldies 92.1 and WOR in New York City.

'No comment' from Citadel employees

Radio & Records is reporting that Citadel Communications "will no longer allow corporatepersonnel to talk on the record to industry trades or the general press about anyissues involving the company or its stations." The move comes on the heals of Infinity's Farid Suleman taking over leadership of the company. Citadel owns four Syracuse radio stations.
