Stations line up for St. Patrick's parade

Several area radio stations plan to take part in tomorrow's St. Patrick's parade on Salina Street in downtown Syracuse. Stations listed in the published lineup include Oldies 92.1 (WSEN), WOLF/Radio Disney, 93Q (WNTQ), 95X (WAQX), and Lite 105.9 (WLTI). The 18th annual parade is scheduled to begin at noon on Saturday and will be broadcast live on WIXT TV (channel 9).

Galaxy, Clear Channel to air firefighter radiothons

Ten Syracuse radio stations are sponsoring two different radiothons over the next two days to benefit the two Manlius firefighters who died in the line of duty last week. Funds raised will go directly to the families of Timothy Lynch and John Ginocchetti.

WSYR, TK-99 want SU play-by-play contract

Three years ago, 570 WSYR lost its Syracuse University play-by-play contract to 95X (WAQX) and WNSS 1260 AM. This July that contract is up, and WSYR as well as TK-99 (WTKW) are looking to become 'The Voice of the Orange.

Jim Lerch to program WHEN

WIXT TV 9 sports reporter and anchor Jim Lerch has been named the new program director at SportsRadio 620 WHEN. While at channel 9, Lerch presented the NewsChannel 9 'Athlete of the Week' award every Wednesday and also anchored 'Friday Night Fever' coverage during the high school football season. Jim also works as a play-by-play announcer for local sporting events.

Stern tops list of possible Letterman replacements

Matt Drudge is reporting that executives at CBS have Howard Stern's name at the top of a short list of possible replacements if David Letterman decides to move to ABC. The talks are being described as "serious", with Stern's agent Don Buchwald said to be on the phone nearly "non-stop" with the network. Stern's syndicated morning show is heard locally on 95X.

Jason Kidd wins marketing award

Hot 107-9's (WWHT) soon-to-be former program director Jason Kidd has been named winner of this year's Central New York Sales And Marketing Executive Award. The award is given to someone who does an "outstanding job of successfully executing the winning principles of sales and marketing." Kidd recently announced he's leaving Syracuse for another Clear Channel station in Pittsburgh.
