Jim Lerch to program WHEN

WIXT TV 9 sports reporter and anchor Jim Lerch has been named the new program director at SportsRadio 620 WHEN. While at channel 9, Lerch presented the NewsChannel 9 'Athlete of the Week' award every Wednesday and also anchored 'Friday Night Fever' coverage during the high school football season. Jim also works as a play-by-play announcer for local sporting events.

Stern tops list of possible Letterman replacements

Matt Drudge is reporting that executives at CBS have Howard Stern's name at the top of a short list of possible replacements if David Letterman decides to move to ABC. The talks are being described as "serious", with Stern's agent Don Buchwald said to be on the phone nearly "non-stop" with the network. Stern's syndicated morning show is heard locally on 95X.

Jason Kidd wins marketing award

Hot 107-9's (WWHT) soon-to-be former program director Jason Kidd has been named winner of this year's Central New York Sales And Marketing Executive Award. The award is given to someone who does an "outstanding job of successfully executing the winning principles of sales and marketing." Kidd recently announced he's leaving Syracuse for another Clear Channel station in Pittsburgh.

Citadel Syracuse operations manager Tom Mitchell has added consulting duties for Binghamton's WYOS (soon to be WWYL) as it switches from Oldies to Top 40. WPXY Rochester's 'Norm on the Barstool' (known now as K.J. Bryant) takes over as program director of the newly-branded 'New Hit Music Station, Wild 104'.

All Things Considered co-host Noah Adams begins a year-long leave of absence this week to write a book about Orville and Wilbur Wright. The 100th anniversary of the brothers' first flight is in 2003. National Public Radio's All Things Considered airs afternoons on WRVO FM 90 and Jazz 88 WAER.
