SYRACUSE -- Starting Monday, viewers will be able to catch live, local television newscasts as early as 4am. CNY Central announced today that NBC 3 (WSTM) will expand its Today in Central New York by a full hour, starting at 4:00am. But there's a flip-side to the expansion: the station will no longer offer the noon newscast it had been simulcasting on NBC 3 and CBS 5 (WTVH).
SYRACUSE -- Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, co-hosts of the fourth hour of the Today show, could be spending a day at Syracuse University next month. The school's status as a finalist for "Kathie Lee and Hoda Go Back to College" was announced on yesterday's broadcast, with a series of live shots from the SU campus.
SYRACUSE -- The early 1920s marked the birth of commercial radio across the world. While Pittsburgh's KDKA is widely known (though often disputed) as the world's first commercial station, Syracuse wasn't very far behind. But to listen to WSYR today, you wouldn't know the station has a big birthday this weekend.
UTICA-ROME -- Hug one person every day for a month... that was the goal for Big Frog 104 (WFRG) morning co-host Polly Wogg over the summer. When she started, she probably had no idea she'd have some of country's biggest stars on her list of hug recipients.
UTICA-ROME -- It's the latest volley in what might possibly be a brewing "sports talk radio war" in the Mohawk Valley. The ESPN Radio Utica-Rome AM trimulcast (WTLB/WIXT/WRNY) has finally made its long-awaited expansion to the FM side of the dial.
AUBURN -- Finger Lakes News Radio is looking for its next morning news anchor. Here's the job description as provided to CNYRadio.com by PD Ted Baker:
SYRACUSE -- Fans of the classic fare carried by "Me-TV" were pretty excited to learn, back in July, that WSYR digital subchannel 9.2 would become an affiliate of the network... starting today. But today, WSYR announced the addition of Me-TV has been postponed until sometime next month.
FULTON -- There's a new choice for country music fans on local radio. Over the weekend, WOSW 1300 replaced its children-focused Radio Disney feed with classic country, under the banner "Real Country AM 1300." The station, located in Fulton, transmits with 1,000 watts of power during the day, and 40 watts at night.
SYRACUSE -- They haven't crossed paths in roughly 25 years, when one was replacing the other on the morning show at Y94FM (WYYY). But thanks to social media, these former Syracuse radio personalities were finally able to catch up with each other at last month's Iron Girl triathlon.
SYRACUSE and UTICA -- Market rankings for the 2012-2013 television season have been announced by Nielsen, the company that measures TV viewership nationwide. Nielsen says both markets have fewer viewers, but both are maintaining last year's rankings.
