WATERTOWN -- At a time when many stations are cutting costs by replacing local talent with syndication, one station is doing just the opposite. Watertown's ESPN Radio 1410 (WNER) launches a new live, local sports talk show next Monday.
"Matt Mc's Sports Fix" will air weekdays from 5-6pm. It will be hosted by Matt McClusky, who already provides a daily sports minute during the morning show on sister stations Froggy 97 (WFRY)... and his morning sports minutes will also begin airing on Z93 (WCIZ) as of April 1.
McClusky, whose primary job is in the sports department at the Watertown Daily Times, tells CNYRadio.com:
"I realized there was not enough local coverage, outside of our paper, on what matters to the North Country sports fan. We have a number of talented teams in a variety of sport that deserve some extra attention. So I began talking with Stephens Media Group general manager Mark Gaines about starting a show on ESPN 1410 WNER. Mr. Gaines and I developed the concept and with the direction of [WFRY program director] Stan Soboleski, Matt Mc's Sports Fix was created. We will be talking everything from the Frontier League to the Big East and anything else that the listeners care about. I will also have a great deal of focus on the Watertown Red and Black and the Watertown Wizards."
A graduate of South Jefferson High School and SUNY Oswego, McCluskey says he's also excited about starting up live play-by-play coverage of local high school sports. He'll select one match as the "Game of the Week," with live coverage from start to finish.
