SYRACUSE — It’s been a big question for TV stations all over the country: what will you air when Oprah goes away? In Syracuse, that question is now definitively answered. ABC affiliate NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) will replace Winfrey’s 4pm hour-long timeslot with one of her own spinoffs: The Dr. Oz Show.

SYRACUSE — Rome native Kevin Torres is doing very well at his current job in Denver.  But you don’t have to take his word for it — Torres was recently nominated for three Emmy Awards, and took one home when the Heartland Chapter of NATAS announced winners this past Saturday.

SYRACUSE — Four years ago, WCNY announced plans to build brand new television and radio studios in Syracuse’s Near Westside neighborhood. Complications with grant funding derailed the project, but now the public broadcaster says the project is back on track, with construction set to begin within a few weeks.

SYRACUSE — When local news media outlets submit entries for the Syracuse Press Club’s annual Professional Recognition Awards in 2012, there won’t be any paperwork involved. Nor will there be any CDs, DVDs, story printouts or printed photographs.

SYRACUSE — Certain customers of Time Warner Cable have not been able to view Syracuse’s NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) since late last month. One reader tells us he’s unhappy that the ABC affiliate was removed from his lineup on June 29th. Time Warner Cable tells CNYTVNews.com that the change was requested by WSYR-TV’s owners.

SYRACUSE — The newest face on the news team at NewsChannel 9 is actually a familiar face, both to the ABC affiliate and to local viewers. Tammy Palmer recently made the jump back to broadcast television, after a few years anchoring at Time Warner Cable’s YNN.

BOLTON LANDING — Earlier this week, we reported that Central New York TV and radio stations fared well at the New York State Broadcasters Association’s annual awards banquet.  Today, we look back at an evening that was especially memorable for longtime NewsChannel 9 co-anchors Rod Wood and Carrie Lazarus.

SYRACUSE — Time Warner Cable’s 24/7 local news channel, YNN, has an opening for a web producer.  Much like another job posting from ABC affiliate WSYR-TV earlier this week, the job entails repurposing broadcast news stories and video for the station website.
