SYRACUSE and UTICA-ROME — It’s a double feature for our Picture of the Week.  Up and coming country music star Jenna Jentry is touring the country and recently visited two area radio stations.  And while doing some background research about the singer, we found out she’s got roots here in Central New York.

ITHACA — When Greg Fry left Saga news/talker WHCU more than four years ago, he was the assistant news director.  Today, station management announced he’s coming back — but this time, he’ll be omitting the word “assistant” from his old title.

SYRACUSE — Longtime local broadcaster Dick Mastriano has been let go from his post as morning host for Oldies 1050 (WSEN).  Management at the station, owned by Leatherstocking Media Group, confirms for CNYRadio.com that Mastriano’s duties will be absorbed by another staffer as a result of budget-tightening.

SYRACUSE — Syracuse University public radio station 88.3 WAER is looking to hire a broadcast engineer.  The eventual hire oversee all technical aspects of the NPR affiliate’s technical facilities, including the on-air audio chain from the studios to the transmitter, as well as IT-related duties such as computer and network maintenance.

ITHACA — Big news behind a big move planned by student owned-and-operated WVBR 93.5FM: when the station moves to new digs later this year, the building will be dubbed the “Olbermann-Corneliess Studios.”  The naming rights to WVBR’s future home were secured through a major donation from cable TV news commentator Keith Olbermann.  The broadcaster —

UTICA-ROME — Radio station 1450 WKAL is supposed to be back on the air tomorrow, but the station’s owner has asked the FCC for more time to complete construction of a new studio space in Rome.
