Updated 3/30: Parkins has Tweeted his new home is Kansas City and he starts his new show there on Monday.  His new home is "610 Sports" (KCSP) and his timeslot is weekdays, 9-11am Central.

SYRACUSE -- He already left Syracuse once in 2009, after graduating from Syracuse University.  Today, Danny Parkins surprised listeners by announcing he's leaving again: today was his final show at The Score 1260 (WSKO).   As for his next stop -- we've been given some hints, but no definite answers yet.

WRVO Fundraiser Exceeds Goal

(Updated 9:15pm) OSWEGO -- A one-day fundraiser called "Thousand Member Thursday" is being called a success tonight.  Staffers at NPR affiliate WRVO say the station eclipsed their goal, after hearing from more than 1,300 members by the time the one-day fundraiser officially ended this evening.

TK99 Erases Admission Charge for Concert

SYRACUSE -- The annual "Blues, Brews and BBQ" concert hosted by Galaxy Communications' classic rock stations TK99/TK105 (WTKV/WTKW) will be open to the public for free this year. Headliners include Max Weinberg, who gained fame as the drummer for Bruce Springsteen and later as the bandleader on Late Night with Conan O'Brien during the comedian's NBC years.

Former Syracuse/Utica TV Station Owner Barry Ackerley Dies

SEATTLE -- Barry Ackerley, who once owned several upstate New York television stations including ABC affiliates WIXT in Syracuse and WUTR in Utica, has died. News reports from Ackerley's long-time home base of Seattle say Ackerley died after suffering a stroke yesterday morning in California at the age of 76.

A belated gift from CNYRadio.com following our 10th anniversary earlier this month.  It's also good news for those wishing to explore the history of local radio: almost all of the articles from the "original" CNYRadio.com are back online.  In the past, republishing our archives was a slow process, because each article had to be manually imported, one by one.  But someone finally created a program to automate the process -- so the job is now nearly complete.

House Votes to Cut NPR Funding

The U.S. House of Representatives voted today to cut funding for NPR.  According to the Associated Press, the effort of the GOP-controlled house is not expected to be approved by the Democrat-led Senate.  Even if it does, the White House says President Obama would veto the action.  But WRVO's general manager says he's still worried about funding cuts.

Garrison Keillor to Retire in 2013

Garrison Keillor, creator and longtime host of A Prairie Home Companion says he's only planning to tell the tales of Lake Wobegon for another two years. Keillor announced he plans to retire in 2013 -- he'll be 70 years old.

Time Warner Cable WILL Have Friday's SU Game in HD

Updated 6pm: SYRACUSE -- Time Warner Cable has announced late this afternoon (via Twitter) that it will be adding the HD version of truTV (formerly CourtTV) to its lineups in time for Syracuse University's first appearance in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday night.
