SYRACUSE -- One last time... it's not radio, but it's been an historic week for Syracuse broadcasting. Earlier this week, WTVH (Channel 5) fired about 40 people without warning, after announcing it would be entering a shared-services agreement with WSTM (Channel 3). In this installment of the POTW, a look back at better times for WTVH.

NEW YORK CITY -- The New York Stock Exchange ticker symbol "CDL" will be up for grabs soon. The NYSE has announced it will be taking Citadel Broadcasting off the exchange by the end of the week.
CHICAGO - Longtime news commentator Paul Harvey died in Arizona on Saturday, according to the Associated Press. He was 90. A spokesperson for ABC Radio Networks says Harvey died surrounded by his family.
OSWEGO -- An observant CNYRadio.com reader points out the work of WRVO reporter Jasmyn Belcher gained some national attention today during NPR Weekend Edition.
SYRACUSE -- Even though it's not related to radio (well, it could be, but we'd have to make some awfully long, historic stretches), it's still a pretty big story. Trusted sources tell CNYRadio.com two Syracuse TV stations may be joining forces, in a move that includes one station shutting down its news department.
OSWEGO - NPR affiliate is looking for volunteers to answer calls during its upcoming spring fundraiser -- but first, the station is giving listeners the chance to completely avoid being hounded for pledges.
SYRACUSE - The Beat of Syracuse, Z89 (WJPZ) is celebrating its 24th birthday this weekend, with a special on-air birthday celebration this evening, and a banquet tomorrow night with SU alum Elvis Duran, currently host of "the real Z Morning Zoo" at Z-100 WHTZ in New York City.
WATERTOWN -- Like it or not, there's no denying the success of Fox TV's American Idol, currently running in its 8th season. And as long as the show does well, so do many regional efforts that mimic the show -- including the current "North Country Idol" contest sponsored by Froggy 97 (WFRY).
OSWEGO -- As we reported earlier this month, WRVO has chosen Jason Smith to take over the hosting duties of "Morning Edition" when longtime host John Hurlbutt retires. Today, the station made the announcement "official" with the dates for the transition.
