Tim Huppmann, known to listeners of TK99, WSEN, WOLF and other stations as "Rick Ryder," died on Monday, according to an obituary published in the Syracuse Post-Standard earlier this week. Huppmann, who also served for many years working his way up the ranks to Chief of Rescue and Firefighting at Hancock Airport, was 65 years old.
Clear Channel Syracuse is now accepting team registrations for the 3rd Annual Bill Leaf Kickball Tournament. Leaf was working as a reporter for Newsradio 570 WSYR, and a part-time sportscaster for WTVH-TV, when he was killed by a drunk driver in 2006. This year's tournament will take place on Saturday, May 17th at Onondaga Lake Park.
Ithaca's I-100 has an opening for an afternoon drive jock. Program Director Mark Vanness tells CNYRadio.com existing PM driver Dan Ward is leaving the station, and the search is on for a replacement. Here's the complete job posting:
We aren't sure how old this is -- there were no dates mentioned on 570 WSYR's website, but morning show host Joe Galuski recently celebrated 20 years with the station.
The problem is fixed! If you recently signed up for a CNYRadio.com Subscriber Account (for access to post comments), but you never got an e-mail with your initial password -- now you can get it.
Brent Axe and his sports talk show "On the Block" returned to the Syracuse airwaves this afternoon. As we reported earlier, Axe is on the air weekdays from 3-6pm. His show is on Citadel's ESPN Radio 1260 (WNSS). He originally told us today's launch was not set-in-stone, but any uncertainty is now gone, with the show's debut moments ago.
Thanks to an observant CNYRadio.com reader for pointing this out -- XM Radio's "Sonic Sound Salutes" show will spend five hours paying tribute to WOLF in its days as a Top 40 station. The five-hour show begins this afternoon (Friday) at 4:00, on XM's "60s" channel.
We go to Utica for this installment of the CNYRadio.com Picture of the Week. Newsradio 950 WIBX spent two days broadcasting live from the Utica College gymnasium during the weekend of March 8-9, to raise more than $17,000 for the American Heart Association, during it's 37th annual Heart Radiothon, a part of America's Greatest Heart Run & Walk.
Just a quick note to point out the new Links Page which sits in the menu at the very top of the page, directly underneath the "utica-rome" in our logo. In there, you'll find a link to a new site that covers television in central New York. (Despite the very similar appearance -- we have nothing to do with the TV site -- but as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.) We've also tidied up a few other odds and ends, along with upgrading of the backbone of the site last weekend.
