New K-Rock PD starts next week

K-Rock (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) has a new program director as of next Monday.

Scott Petibone makes his way to Syracuse from Elmira where he was the operations manager for the Backyard Group. He has also programmed modern rock stations in Tallahassee and Jacksonville.

K-Rock also has a new music director and night guy replacing Kevin Kline who recently switched to mornings. Tim Noble, who moves from Galaxy' Albany K-Rock, cranks it up from 6-10 weeknights.

Matt Raisman exits Froggy 97

Look for a new voice in the afternoon at Watertown's Froggy 97 following Matt Raisman's exit last week.

Raisman, known on the air as Bullfrog, moved to Watertown from Regent Communications' Utica-Rome cluster last March to program WFRY and ESPN Radio 1410 (WNER). There's no word on where he's headed.

Arbitron's president to visit Syracuse

This year's keynote address at WJPZ's 19th annual Radio Birthday Banquet will center around the world of radio ratings.

Pierre Bouvard, president of the Arbitron radio ratings service, will be the guest of honor at the February 28th event at the Syracuse University Sheraton which is sponsored by the Alumni Association of WJPZ.

Press Club, WCNY sponsor media discussion

Do you trust the media? That's what the Syracuse Press Club and WCNY TV24 hope to find out during a live televised panel discussion next week.

The panel of news professionals, which includes Clear Channel's Syracuse market manager Joel Delmonico, will take a look at national cases of newspaper plagerism, the selling of television interviews, and the fuzzy line between news and entertainment and more in front of an audience of invited guests.

"Do You Trust the Media" airs Wednesday, February 18 at 8 p.m. on WCNY TV.

Public radio fall ratings released

In Fall 2003 Arbitron ratings figures released for the public radio side of the dial, The WRVO Stations once again topped the Syracuse rankings, while Classic FM (WCNY) wound up tied with WRVO in Utica-Rome.

The fall book, which is traditionally a strong one for WRVO, shows the news-talk station gaining a full point in Syracuse, while second place WCNY also showed improvement over a year ago. Both stations scored a 1.7 in Utica-Rome.

Tony Kornheiser to leave ESPN Radio

ESPN Radio sports talker Tony Kornheiser will give up his daily talk show at the end of March.

Kornheiser, who is also a popular Washington Post columnist, will focus his efforts on his ESPN television job on Pardon the Interuption.

ESPN Radio has affiliates in Syracuse, Utica-Rome, and Watertown.

Q Country leads Ithaca ratings

Q Country (WQNY) dropped nearly seven ratings points from the spring to fall ratings period, but the Ithaca station managed to hold on to the top spot in the market with a 12.1.

In Arbitron numbers released last week, Q's sister Eagle Broadcasting station, Lite 97 (WYXL), also lost ground in its share of the market after losing more than three points, but maintained its number two rank.

Clear Channel's local advisory boards

Big Frog 104 tops Utica-Rome ratings

The latest Arbitron numbers are out for the Utica-Rome market and Regent Communications is once again on top.

Regent's Big Frog 104 (WFRG) and Lite 98.7 (WLZW) have been neck-and-neck atop the ratings heap for the past couple of years. In numbers released this week for the fall ratings period, WFRG moved ahead of WLZW to become number one with a 13.8 rating.
