Dr. Joy Browne to visit Syracuse this week

TalkRadio 1050 WFBL welcomes one of its syndicated hosts to its Syracuse studios this week. Dr. Joy Browne, whose show normally originates from the WOR Network studios in New York City's Time Square, will broadcast her relationship advice show live from WFBL's studios on Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until noon. She will also be on hand Monday evening beginning at 7 p.m. at Borders Books at Carousel Center to sign copies of her latest book, Getting Unstuck.

Norris, Inskeep named new hosts at NPR

Michelle Norris has been tapped as a new co-host of National Public Radio's All Things Considered. Norris joins Robert Siegel and Melissa Block beginning December 9. Meanwhile, Steve Inskeep gets the nod for the hosting job of the weekend version of the show. All Things Considered is heard afternoons on WRVO FM 90 and Jazz 88.

WHEN picks up postseason baseball action

With its local commitment to Syracuse University sports, it was too tight of a squeeze over at ESPN Radio 1260 to fit in the network's postseason baseball play-by-play coverage this fall. Fear not, baseball fans, SportsRadio 620 has acquired the rights to air the broadcasts. According to WHEN program director Jim Lerch, "Even though we are a competitor of WNSS, ESPN wanted the games on in this market and we were happy to take them."

Clear Channel may strike deal with Landmark

Talks between Clear Channel Communications and the Landmark Theatre may be headed for a deal that would nearly double the use of the 74-year-old theater. While Clear Channel would not become an exclusive promoter for the historic movie house, it would help to bring off-Broadway caliber shows to the venue and help in acquiring additional grant money. Clear Channel owns seven radio stations and WIXT TV 9 in Syracuse.

WRVO auditions new weekend show

WRVO is looking for listener feedback on a new show which it plans to "audition" this weekend. The pilot episode of Public Radio Weekend, produced by Minnesota Public Radio and hosted by David Brown and Merrill Markoe, will air from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday. In developing the show, producers have "talked with some of the country's best radio programmers and producers, asking what might make a great Saturday afternoon listening experience."
