Syracuse native David Muir named "20/20" co-host

NEW YORK CITY -- David Muir, who started his TV news career at Syracuse's WTVH, has a new role with ABC News.  Today, he's been named the new co-host of the network's weekly newsmagazine show, "20/20."  He'll fill a vacancy left by Chris Cuomo, who has accepted a position at CNN.

WSYR radio sporting new logo and on-air branding

SYRACUSE -- It's no longer "News/Talk 106.9 and 570 WSYR."  Although the Clear Channel-owned station still runs the news/talk format, news anchors and traffic reporters now end their reports "...on Newsradio 570 WSYR, now on 106.9 FM."  A new logo on WSYR's website and social media feeds reflects the new phrasing.

Where are they now: Former channel 5 boss Les Vann named GM in Ga.

SYRACUSE -- Former CBS5 (WTVH) General Manager Les Vann has a new job.  He's been named General Manager of ABC affiliate WJCL and Fox affiliate WTGS in Savannah, Georgia.  That's the word from Mediabistro's TV Spy, which reports Vann comes to the new job after spending his time since Syracuse in the top spot at Cincinnati CBS affiliate WKRC.  Vann was VP and GM of WTVH and Granite Broadcasting sister station WBNG in Binghamton from 2004 to 2008.

SYRACUSE -- Longtime local broadcaster Dick Mastriano has been let go from his post as morning host for Oldies 1050 (WSEN).  Management at the station, owned by Leatherstocking Media Group, confirms for CNYRadio.com that Mastriano's duties will be absorbed by another staffer as a result of budget-tightening.

WVBR studio construction gets big boost from Keith Olbermann

ITHACA -- Big news behind a big move planned by student owned-and-operated WVBR 93.5FM: when the station moves to new digs later this year, the building will be dubbed the "Olbermann-Corneliess Studios."  The naming rights to WVBR's future home were secured through a major donation from cable TV news commentator Keith Olbermann.  The broadcaster -- a 1979 graduate of Cornell University -- said he wanted the studios named in memory of his father, Theodore Olbermann, and Glenn Corneliess, a WVBR colleague and former program director who died in 1996.

WJPZ Alumni Association unveils lineup for annual banquet

SYRACUSE -- ABC News Radio correspondent Steven Portnoy will be the keynote speaker at the WJPZ Alumni Association's 28th annual birthday banquet this March.  The festivities will be emceed by the Class of 2007's Ralphie Aversa, who is now the night jock at New York's WPLJ-FM.  The banquet is part of a full weekend of events, including the official opening of Z89's new studios, and this year's WJPZ Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
