SYRACUSE -- Even though it's been nearly two weeks since Rush Limbaugh made headlines with his now-infamous namecalling of Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke, it appears the controversy isn't over yet. Today, a Syracuse car dealer became the first local advertiser to pull its spots from Limbaugh's show.
SEATTLE -- Syndicated love songs host Delilah, whose show is carried by radio stations in the Syracuse and Utica-Rome markets, shared some sad news from her personal life over the weekend. One of her sons, Samuel Young Dzolali Rene, lost his life to sickle cell anemia yesterday.
UTICA-ROME -- Morning man and PD Bob Cain has exited Oldiez 96.1 WODZ. According to at least two anonymous readers who contacted CNYRadio.com, Cain's departure was announced to staff today, and it is "effective immediately."
SYRACUSE -- It's been more than two decades since Neil Presant left upstate New York for his current job in sales at CBS Radio in Tampa, Florida... but he hasn't forgotten the roots of his radio career. Presant recently sent this photo he took on his last day working for the former "Light and Easy" 100.9 WEZG.
ITHACA/CORTLAND -- The day after we all "spring ahead" for daylight saving time, Progressive Talk 1470 WNYY will be making some clock adjustments of its own. The Saga-owned station says it's flip-flopping timeslots for two of its syndicated hosts.
ITHACA/CORTLAND -- Frank Lischak is back for his second tour of duty as General Manager of Z95.5 (WFIZ). Lischak was GM when the station launched in 2008, ending a stretch of 15+ years during which the Ithaca market had no CHR-formatted radio stations.
SYRACUSE -- There are some new voices delivering weather forecasts for four of Clear Channel's six local radio stations. As of Monday, FM Newsradio 106.9 and 570 WSYR plus two other stations started using meteorologists from AccuWeather.com, ending a three-year affiliation with The Weather Channel's radio services.
CENTRAL NEW YORK -- Dozens of national-level advertisers and two radio stations -- one in Hawaii and one in Massachusetts -- have severed ties with The Rush Limbaugh Show, over some well-publicized remarks Limbaugh made on-air recently. But when it comes to affiliates in the three markets covered by CNYRadio.com, it appears Limbaugh's future is secure.
SYRACUSE -- Listeners probably won't notice any changes on-air, but there's been a change behind the scenes at WOLF Radio Inc.'s MOViN 100.3 and 96.5 (WMVN). The change should make things a little easier for one staff member who's had a pretty full plate over the past two years.
UTICA-ROME -- For the second time in a week, Gary "Big Poppa" Spears is getting national exposure for "breaking" celebrity news. On Friday morning, he spoke with Johnny "The Unit" Manfre, a close friend of Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino from the popular MTV series Jersey Shore. The pair's interview about the reported pregnancy of Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was quickly picked up by the popular celebrity news website TMZ.
