SYRACUSE -- Following up to last week's "blast from the past" photo of the WTVH Newscenter 5 team, we have not one, but two more classic Syracuse TV news photos from the personal collection of longtime NewsChannel 9 anchor Rod Wood. We didn't see Rod in last week's photo (taken at least 20 years after Rod moved from channel 5 to channel 9) but you'll see him in both of this week's photos.
SYRACUSE -- NBC affiliate WSTM channel 3 will be going off the air overnight tonight, for what the station is calling "routine maintenance." According to CNYCentral.com, the outage, from 11:35pm tonight until 6:30am tomorrow, will only impact over-the-air viewers. Satellite, cable and fiberoptic viewers won't notice anything different.
SYRACUSE -- From country music, to rock, pop and now religious music... Dan Dunn has experience in a variety of radio formats. These days, he's at the Mars Hill Network (WMHR) and he's on the cover of the current edition of The Good News Paper, a Christian publication based in Syracuse. Dunn spoke with John Petrilli about his faith, his experience in radio, and how his current job combines the two.
SYRACUSE -- Clear Channel AC Y94FM (WYYY) and the Syracuse City School District are teaming up to salute teachers. Nominations are now being accepted for "31 Teachers, 31 Days." Each day in May, winners will be recognized online and on-air.
Updated 10:40am -- SYRACUSE -- It's a day many fans have been eagerly awaiting: Dave Frisina's first shift on 105.9 The Rebel (WXTL). The longtime local radio host begins his new weekday air shifts today and he'll be on the air for afternoon drive, 2-7pm.
SYRACUSE -- More than 35 local school children will appear on television later today. They're the finalists in the Post-Standard/WCNY Spelling Bee, which will be televised live on WCNY-TV 24.1. The winner will advance the national level of competition in Washington, D.C. this spring.
SYRACUSE -- The Mars Hill Network, based at flagship station 102.9 WMHR, is observing Black History Month with brief vignettes airing twice each weekday throughout February. You can hear the segments, titled "Treasured Moments in Black History," at 7:40am and 6:20pm.
SYRACUSE -- Get a handful of the area's top local professors. Sit them down at a table. Invite them to discuss current political and social issues. Add lights and TV cameras. Sit back and enjoy for 30 minutes. It's a recipe for success for WCNY-TV's "Ivory Tower Half Hour," which celebrates its 400th episode -- a special hour-long edition -- tonight at 8:00pm.
SYRACUSE -- It's a blast from the past in this latest installment of "Picture of the Week." NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) anchor and Syracuse broadcast historian Rod Wood recently sent over several photos from his extensive collection. This week, we look back at a WTVH publicity photo from the late 1980s or early 90s. Can you name everyone in this photo?
SYRACUSE -- Following the recent resignation of J. Daniel Pluff, there will be not one, but two new hosts taking WCNY-TV's "Financial Fitness" into its 20th year. The PBS affiliate says Jim Burns and Vicki Brackens will share hosting duties for the locally-produced program. Both are familiar faces to viewers: Burns has been guest hosting since Pluff exited, and Brackens had been a regular panelist on the show.
