The FCC's call sign database shows an application was filed yesterday to bring the WSYR-FM calls back to Syracuse.

WASHINGTON -- The FCC's Media Bureau announced a temporary freeze on applications for new digital low-power television (LPTV) stations and TV translators "in so-called 'rural areas,'" effective immediately. The agency says holding those apps will allow staffers to focus on efforts to make more room for mobile broadband.

FULTON -- The Federal Communications Commission today released a ruling made on Friday, that it would cancel a $7,000 "forfeiture" it had levied in 2007 against Fulton station WAMF 1300 for licensing violations. The reason given by the FCC: it "has since learned" of then-owner Don DeRosa's passing, which happened three months ago.
UTICA/ROME -- Many of the songs featured on "Beautiful Music" (WUTQ/WADR) may have been big hits when AM Radio was the only choice, but fans of the format don't have to keep listening on AM anymore. Roser Communications Network has turned the simulcast into a trimulcast, with the addition of a new FM translator.
SYRACUSE -- Classic FM (WCNY) has requested permission to move its transmitter to the relatively new TV tower on Sentinel Heights. Word comes from Scott Fybush's NorthEast Radio Watch that WCNY wants to move from its older tower in Pompey. Updated 6/22 with additional information.
