UTICA/ROME -- There's cause for celebration at Galaxy Communications: the company was named "Business of the Year" by the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce. The Syracuse-based broadcaster, which owns six stations in the Utica-Rome market, was named the winner among businesses with 50 or fewer employees.
SYRACUSE -- There's no confirmation yet from Clear Channel, but signs point toward a possible FM simulcast for news/talker WSYR in the near future. SYRACUSE -- Sunny 102 (WZUN) morning host "Big Mike" Fiss says he's ready for his 29th Annual Live Christmas Show Broadcast, featuring more than a dozen professional vocalists, plus live performances from more than a dozen choruses from local schools and other community organizations. The broadcast is set to take place this Friday.
UTICA-ROME -- There are now two stations in the Mohawk Valley playing holiday hits around the clock. Just like last year, Lite 98.7 (WLZW) chose today, the day after Thanksgiving, as the date to make the change.
SYRACUSE -- Based on how things went last year in Syracuse, we expected Clear Channel's Y94FM (WYYY) would have gone all-Christmas on about November 11th, but the station held off more than a week longer this year, making the switch late last week.
SYRACUSE and UTICA-ROME -- With Halloween 2010 just barely into the history books, two local radio stations are already looking ahead to Christmas. And based on previous years' experience (2009 | 2008) -- it's no surprise that Galaxy's Sunny 102 (WZUN/Phoenix) and Mix 102.5 (WUMX/Rome) are those first two stations to make the switch.
SYRACUSE -- Tommy Nast of the former 94 Rock (present-day Y94FM / WYYY) was back in town last night, recounting some of the battles he waged against 95X (WAQX) back when the two stations were bitter rivals. Nast spoke at the Syracuse Area Music Awards (SAMMYs) Hall of Fame induction ceremony last night.
