Update 9/7/09 – We did not have enough people (specifically females) sign up to satisfy the minimum team size rules of the tournament, so we will not have a team.  Thanks to the folks who did express an interest, and hopefully we’ll be able to get a team together for next year.  :-(

SYRACUSE — As quickly and suddenly as it appeared on Friday, Clear Channel’s “Young Country” format on WPHR has disappeared.  This morning, the station flipped back to its previous urban/R&B format, Power 106.9.

SYRACUSE — Dan McIntyre, a former producer of “The Jim Reith Show,” is hoping to try his hand at politics.  McIntyre, who also hosted a short-lived Saturday morning talk show on Newsradio 570 WSYR, is running for Supervisor in the Town of Clay.

SYRACUSE — A date has been set for this year’s Bill Leaf Kickball Tournament, held in memory of the former WSYR(AM)/WTVH-TV journalist killed by a drunk driver in 2006.  The event will take place Saturday, September 26, but also mark your calendars for September 9th — that’s the registration deadline.

SYRACUSE — Clear Channel’s Newsradio 570 WSYR is hoping you’ll help them to rebuild a Syracuse playground tomorrow.  Pledge lines will be open for the “Let’s Rebuild the Playground Radiothon” from 6am to 7pm Tuesday.

Former WSYR/WYYY/WBBS Chief Engineer Conrad Trautmann has a new job title. National trades are reporting Trautmann has been named Executive Vice President of Technology at Dial Global/Triton Radio Networks.

SYRACUSE — You often hear about hockey players being sent back and forth between the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL and its parent club, the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Today, the NHL team announced it’s calling up Crunch broadcaster Bob McElligott.

ROCHESTER — On July 6, former Syracuse radio personality Jack Mindy will be calling it a career… stepping away from the mic after more than half a century.  Longtime Syracuse residents may remember Mindy’s voice from WHEN, WFBL and WSYR during the 1970s.
