UTICA — Although Bill Worden received plenty of accolades during his final newscast prior to retiring from NewsChannel 2 (WKTV) last November, there’s still at least one more on the way. Worden, who was the NBC affiliate’s primary anchor for 35 years, will recieve the Syracuse Press Club’s Career Achievement Award next weekend.

Updated 4/16 — CENTRAL NEW YORK — In the hours after the Boston Marathon bombings, we’re learning how some Central New York broadcasters who were in Boston today are faring.  Thankfully, all of the reports are positive.

UTICA-ROME — Just a little over a week since the Mohawk Valley was jolted by a deadly shooting rampage, an unprecedented effort by local broadcasters.  Journalists and disc jockeys set competition aside to help raise money for community organizations that are helping victims of the horrific events of March 13.

UTICA — A few months since ABC affiliates NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) in Syracuse and WUTR in Utica became reunited under the same corporate umbrella, history appears to be repeating itself: a member of the WSYR-TV team is appearing on newscasts for WUTR and sister station Fox 33 (WFXV) this evening.

Updated 3/22 — WASHINGTON, DC — The rumors we first reported last night are confirmed: Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski will be leaving his post in “the coming weeks.”  As expected, Genachowski made the announcement today.

SYRACUSE — Just about three years since Central New York’s “News 10 Now” joined many of its sisters in rebranding as YNN — short for “Your News Now” — owner Time Warner Cable is considering another name change for its portfolio of local and regional cable news channels.

SYRACUSE — Non-commercial radio stations and Syracuse TV stations dominated in their respective categories in the Syracuse Press Club’s annual Professional Recognition Awards competition. The club released the list of winners for the contest, which was open to all media outlets within the SPC’s 21-county service area.

SYLVAN BEACH — Could it be possible that the haunts in the “Laffland” ride at Sylvan Beach Amusement Park aren’t entirely fake?  The cast and crew of the SyFy series “Ghost Hunters” visited to investigate.  Next week, they’ll reveal their findings on national television.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Federal Communications Commission issued an important reminder to television stations today: the deadline to comply with new public inspection file requirements is approaching. Stations must have all required documents uploaded to the FCC’s website by midnight on Monday.
