SYRACUSE -- The 15th annual K-Rockathon, hosted by Galaxy Communications trio of K-Rock stations (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) boasted a crowd of 15,000 in attendance this past Saturday. Updated 8/1 - UTICA-ROME -- Lite 98.7 (WLZW) raised more than $25,000 during its 10th annual Children's Miracle Network Radiothon, held Thursday and Friday. Proceeds will benefit children's services at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in Utica.
SYRACUSE -- After three years as a news reporter/anchor and show host at Newsradio 570 WSYR, Jay Fishman announced on-air this morning that he's ending his full-time employment with the station. He's going to focus the bulk of his time on pursuing a law degree, but he'll still be involved with the station on a part-time basis.
SYRACUSE -- When the band Avenged Sevenfold takes the stage during K-Rockathon 15 this Saturday, a live video feed of the performance will be streamed on at least four major websites, allowing fans worldwide to "virtually" join those in attendance at the State Fairgrounds.
WATERTOWN -- Arbitron today told its clients that it has disqualified two in-tab diaries from its Fall 2009 survey of the Watertown market. The ratings giant explains the diaries "were returned from a household whose participation in the survey was disclosed to a media-affiliated individual." Arbitron says some ratings -- particularly for The Border 106.7 (WBDR-FM) -- may be "substantially affected" as a result of removing the two diaries.
SYRACUSE -- Organizers of the 5th Annual Bill Leaf Memorial Kickball Tournament announced some significant developments today. First up, they're now accepting team registrations online. Second, they've altered some of the old rules, in hopes of making it easier for both teams and individual players to participate.
SYRACUSE -- There are supposed to be three more "Wednesdays on the Water" concerts at the Inner Harbor, but media sponsor 95X (WAQX) says the concert series promoter, NCS Events, has decided to pull the plug on the series.
ITHACA -- The popular interactive quiz show Whad'Ya Know is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. And earlier this summer, Finger Lakes Public Radio (WEOS) brought host Michael Feldman and the rest of the crew to Ithaca to broadcast the show live from the State Theatre.
SYRACUSE -- Since the day MOViN 100.3/96.5 (WMVN) launched, the 96.5 translator (W243AB) covering downtown Syracuse was actually not owned by its parent station's owner. But that's recently changed, as MOViN' owner Craig Fox has purchased the translator outright.
NEW YORK CITY -- When Kelly Ripa takes vacation in mid-August, there will be an empty seat on the long-running morning TV gabfest Live! With Regis and Kelly. To find substitutes, the show launched a "Women of Radio Co-Host for a Day" promotion. Listeners submitted their nominations, and today, syndicated AC night host Delilah, heard throughout Central New York, is among the top 100 finalists.
