OSWEGO -- The latest major fundraising effort from NPR affiliate WRVO generated close to $182,000 in pledges, and "donations are still coming in" following the mid-October event. Also inside: a new frequency for WRVO's Norwich translator.
SYRACUSE -- Newsradio 570 WSYR's two-day radiothon to benefit the Golisano Children's Hospital at University Hospital raised its biggest total yet -- the $104,850 raised not only broke a record, but it's double the amount raised last year.
ITHACA -- He's lived inside a block of ice to raise money for the homeless, floated in the air to help stock up a local food bank, and ran a 60-hour on-air marathon to benefit improvements for the State Theater. And starting today, Q-Country (WQNY) morning host Chris Allinger is camping out at a local mall to help less-fortunate children this Christmas.
ITHACA -- There's been an unusual lack of snowfall so far this season in the Central New York region... and while many folks might enjoy that fact, at least one local radio journalist is reminiscing to the way the weather probably should be this time of year.
OSWEGO -- There's a new sound tonight in the Port City -- the MOViN 100.3 simulcast that used to be heard on 96.7 has been replaced by sister station New Country WOLF 105.1. GENEVA -- NPR affiliate WEOS has unveiled the winning photos from its "2010 Listener Calendar" contest. The challenge: showcase the beauty of the Finger Lakes region -- but no waterfalls allowed! In addition to revealing the winners, WEOS is now also selling the calendars. Proceeds benefit the station.
ITHACA -- Not long after exiting his position as PD/morning host at Z95.5 (WFIZ), Justin Wright is back on the air, a little further down route 13 in Elmira. But he's still looking for another opportunity.
UTICA-ROME -- There are now three stations in the Utica-Rome market playing non-stop Christmas music. Lite 98.7 (WLZW) made the switch early this morning. It's the first time in the Regent Communications AC station's 20-year history that the all-Christmas switch was flipped before Christmas Eve.
