Brent Axe and his sports talk show "On the Block" returned to the Syracuse airwaves this afternoon. As we reported earlier, Axe is on the air weekdays from 3-6pm. His show is on Citadel's ESPN Radio 1260 (WNSS). He originally told us today's launch was not set-in-stone, but any uncertainty is now gone, with the show's debut moments ago.
Thanks to an observant CNYRadio.com reader for pointing this out -- XM Radio's "Sonic Sound Salutes" show will spend five hours paying tribute to WOLF in its days as a Top 40 station. The five-hour show begins this afternoon (Friday) at 4:00, on XM's "60s" channel.
We go to Utica for this installment of the CNYRadio.com Picture of the Week. Newsradio 950 WIBX spent two days broadcasting live from the Utica College gymnasium during the weekend of March 8-9, to raise more than $17,000 for the American Heart Association, during it's 37th annual Heart Radiothon, a part of America's Greatest Heart Run & Walk.
Just a quick note to point out the new Links Page which sits in the menu at the very top of the page, directly underneath the "utica-rome" in our logo. In there, you'll find a link to a new site that covers television in central New York. (Despite the very similar appearance -- we have nothing to do with the TV site -- but as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.) We've also tidied up a few other odds and ends, along with upgrading of the backbone of the site last weekend.
When WFBL flips formats from news/talk to oldies on Monday, at least one of its syndicated hosts will remain on the air in Syracuse. Newsradio 570 WSYR is running on-air promos stating it will begin carrying "The Savage Nation" with Michael Savage on Monday evening.
(UPDATE 4/2/08 - GM confirmation in Comments area)
Aircheck collectors be on alert! Several sources indicate Buckley Broadcasting's Syracuse stations, WSEN (92.1 FM / 1050 AM) and WFBL (1390 AM), will be flipping formats this coming Monday. The changes may not seem too dramatic at WSEN, but it's a pretty big change for WFBL, which will be abandoning its news/talk format.
We told you last week that WIBX News Director Stacey Lynn McAdams moved to mornings on sister station WFRG, to fill the morning show co-host position vacated by Annie Croakley. Now, somewhat of a "reverse trade," as one of Big Frog 104's part-time jocks temporarily adds news reporting duties for WIBX.
We begin the revival of the "Picture of the Week" with a classic picture tucked away in a website we found, detailing the history of the Penn Can Mall (known today as Driver's Village) in Cicero. We couldn't believe it when we found this...
Sports talk host Brent Axe will be back on the radio within the next month. Axe e-mailed us with the news today. His show "On the Block," will make its comeback on Citadel's ESPN Radio 1260 (WNSS) in April.
