SYRACUSE -- NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) anchor Tanja Babich said she's "living the dream," speaking at the podium during a naturalization ceremony in Syracuse today. Babich was there because she was one of 38 people to become U.S. citizens during the ceremony.
SYRACUSE -- Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network has a full-time opening for a traffic producer/anchor. We've got the full job description from Kathy Denman, who leads the group's Syracuse hub operation:
SYRACUSE -- Fox 68 (WSYT) and My 43 (WNYS) have a full-time opening for a Master Control Operator at the stations' facility on James Street. Among other duties, the MCO will be required to monitor transmitters, receive programming from various sources and handle live switching of both stations.
UTICA-ROME -- Congratulations to Kiss-FM (WSKS/WSKU) middayer and program director Shaun Andrews, who marks his 15th anniversary with the CHR-formatted station today. Andrews says he was just 17 years old when he walked into the station for the first time, back when Kiss was on-air at 102.5FM, while the station's present-day 97.9 and 105.5 frequencies were "the competition," as Wow-FM.
SYRACUSE -- Average viewers might not have ever heard of Bill Eadie, but he had plenty of notable achievements during his 34-year career in Syracuse television. We're sorry to share the news that Eadie passed away on Thursday at the age of 79.
UTICA-ROME -- A belated "hoppy birthday" to Big Frog 104 (WFRG) morning co-host Polly Wogg! Last week, she turned 40. Earlier this month, she asked Keith Urban if he'd sing her a birthday song. Although she didn't get exactly what she asked for, Polly Wogg was still very excited about the special gift she receive from the country music star.
SYRACUSE -- High praise from one of the region's most prominent charitable organizations for Galaxy Communications President/CEO Ed Levine and his wife, Pam, GM of the company's Events division. The couple will be honored as "MVPs" this year at The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation's 14th annual Basket Ball Gala.
OSWEGO -- The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) announced the winners of its 2013 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards today. This year, Oswego-based NPR affiliate WRVO was the only radio or television outlet in Central New York to win an award and move on to the national level of competition.
SYRACUSE -- When the regional Emmy Awards were handed out this past weekend, only one Central New York station took home a trophy. Congratulations to public broadcaster WCNY-TV on taking home the award for best public affairs program for "Insight," which airs every Friday at 9pm.
UTICA-ROME -- Although she started at Lite 98.7 (WLZW) exactly 20 years ago today, midday host Trudy announced she's celebrating 15 years with the adult contemporary station today. Many broadcasters joke that they got into broadcasting so they wouldn't have to do math, but Trudy says there's a good reason for the numbers not matching up.
