Updated 5/14 -- AUBURN -- New radio station 88.7 WTMI/Fleming has met the required FCC deadlines to commence broadcasting and to file the necessary paperwork to have its construction permit upgraded to a permanent broadcast license.  Today, the FCC website was updated to show that WTMI's applications for program test authority and license to cover were both filed on-deadline last week and "accepted for filing" today.

UTICA -- Longtime fans of local professional sports in Utica might remember names like Mike Kalinowski and Tim Roye.  Kalinowski used to call Mohawk Valley Prowlers hockey games on the former WRUN 1150.  Even earlier, Roye hosted SportsWatch on WIBX and handled play-by-play for the long-gone Utica Blue Sox during baseball season.  Today, they're both working for major league teams.

SYRACUSE and UTICA-ROME -- It's a new "first" for the long-running Blue Moon Café on Galaxy stations TK99/105 (WTKW/WTKV) in the Syracuse market and 96.9 WOUR in the Utica-Rome market.  On Sunday's show, Mimi Griswold announced Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers will headline the very first "Blue Moon Afternoon" concert, taking place at Jamesville Beach in July.

UTICA/ROME -- After roughly two months of "filling in" as the morning host on Oldiez 96.1 (WODZ), Davey Jones has been named the station's permanent morning host and brand manager.  Station owner Townsquare Media announced the promotion late last week.  Jones has worked in various capacities within the four-station cluster since late 2009.

UTICA-ROME -- What do you think of Mark Piersma's new fashions?  The co-host of 100.7 WUTQ's daily Talk of the Town posed for a few humorous shots while attending the annual Red Hat Luncheon, which serves as a major fundraiser for a local senior citizen center.

SYRACUSE -- A familar voice has returned to local rock radio, after nearly six years off the air.  Scott Dixon recently took the night shift at Cumulus rocker 95X (WAQX), a position that has him hosting shifts seven days a week.  You might remember him from Clear Channel's relatively-short entry to the local rock station competition via New Rock 105 The Dog (WWDG) from 2003 to 2006.  Dixon's career -- and details of a recent health scare -- are covered in the latest edition of the Syracuse NewTimes.

ST. JOHNSVILLE -- Even though the FCC had previously made it clear that it's decision stands regarding the cancelled construction permit for a new AM station just east of the border between the Utica-Rome and Albany-Schenectady-Troy radio markets, the would-be owner of the station is asking for another chance from the FCC.

UTICA -- News Channel 2 (WKTV) has named Maryland native Janel Boston as the NBC affiliate's new morning co-anchor. She comes from the MyNetwork TV affiliate in Baltimore -- the same market (but not the same station) where former WKTV morning co-anchor Megan Koskovich accepted a producing job in March.

UTICA-ROME -- After nearly 16 years with what is now Townsquare Media, Geoff Storm is headed onto a new venture.  His last day with the four-station camp will be June 1.  That leaves the cluster looking for its next production wizard.  Operations manager Bill McAdams sends along the following job posting:

SYRACUSE -- Michel Martin, the host of NPR's Tell Me More, visited Syracuse last month.  She gave a lecture at Syracuse University on her first evening in town, and she enjoyed a luncheon with community leaders along with members and staff of NPR affiliate WRVO the following day.
