ITHACA -- This week, we're heading more than half a century back in time, for another look into the extensive collection of longtime Ithaca broadcaster Rudy Paolangeli. Although Rudy may be best known for his long-standing connections with WHCU, this photo goes back even further.
SYRACUSE -- For the second time in a single season, Perry Noun's golf talk show, Tee Time with the Pronoun, is changing stations again. After starting the 2011 season on ESPN Radio 97.7/100.7 (WTLA/WSGO/W249BC/W261AC), the Saturday morning program will be cut in half and moved back to the AM dial, to Cumulus Media's The Score 1260 (WSKO).
VERONA -- Chapter 22 of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) has opened registration for its annual Expo. Most of this year's events will take place on October 5, at the Expo's usual location, Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona. Registation is free and open to the public -- you can sign up and find out more about all the day's offerings on the SBE22 Expo website.
SYRACUSE/UTICA-ROME -- Galaxy Communications is looking for a new morning host for its K-Rock (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) trio of stations. A job posting, which appears to have been posted by a radio consulting firm, was posted on a national trade website this morning.
CHICAGO -- Formerly of WFBL and WNTQ, Alan Bishop recently won Radio Ink magazine's "GM of the Year" award, for his work with the Finger Lakes Radio Group in Geneva. The award was presented to Bishop at the NAB-RAB Radio Show last week.
SYRACUSE -- Observant CNYRadio.com readers have noticed that CNY Talk Radio (WFBL/Syracuse, WMCR/Oneida, WUTI/Utica) has recently made some changes to its weekday lineup. The addition of an afternoon news block has pushed some talk hosts to different timeslots.
ITHACA -- From the Cayuga Radio Group of Saga Communications, word today that News-Talker WHCU has a job opening for a news anchor/reporter. Here's the full official job description from the station:
SYRACUSE -- Public broadcaster WCNY wants local kids to say "Yes to Success." That's the name of a new multi-platform campaign geared at encouraging students to remain in high school through graduation. One of the most prominent efforts of the campaign is a 30-minute TV special, set to be recorded live this Monday at a local school, for broadcast starting later next week.
LOS ANGELES -- Syracuse University alum Jason Smith (not to be confused with the WRVO Morning Edition host) announced this week on his ESPN Radio show, AllNight, he's leaving to take a new job with NFL Network. No word (on Wikipedia) as to his new duties or start date. In Syracuse, Smith worked for student-run Z89 (WJPZ-FM). He's been hosting AllNight for ESPN Radio since 2005. ATLANTA -- It's been a long time in the works, and now it's official: the merger of Citadel Broadcasting and Cumulus Media is complete. Cumulus made the announcement this morning. It's basically more of a takeover, as Citadel is technically a "wholly-owned subsidiary" of Cumulus. The deal involves four Syracuse market radio stations.
