SYRACUSE -- If you've noticed there's something missing when you tune your radio to 94.5 on the FM dial lately, you're not going crazy. After nearly 30 years as "Y94FM," the Clear Channel adult contemporary station has a new logo and new on-air imaging branding itself simply as "Y94," minus the FM.
SYRACUSE -- Nationally-syndicated talk show host Michael Savage will be absent from News Talk 106.9 and 570 WSYR and hundreds of other affiliates across the country until further notice, after the California-based host won a long-running lawsuit with his former syndicator, Talk Radio Network.
SYRACUSE -- September started with some notable "comings and goings" in local TV news, and the month appears to be ending with more changes. After two and a half years with CNY Central, multimedia journalist and anchor Jessica Cain says she's leaving her post and heading to the midwest.
SYRACUSE -- The early 1920s marked the birth of commercial radio across the world. While Pittsburgh's KDKA is widely known (though often disputed) as the world's first commercial station, Syracuse wasn't very far behind. But to listen to WSYR today, you wouldn't know the station has a big birthday this weekend.
TULSA, OK -- More proof that broadcasting is a small world: two former Clear Channel Syracuse personalities have, by coincidence, started new radio jobs this year (though with different companies) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
SYRACUSE -- With many stations now operating in clusters, it's not too surprising to see on-air staff from sister stations at the same event. But two morning hosts... from different companies... in the same location during their regular timeslot? It's pretty rare, but it happened last week.
SYRACUSE -- Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Saundra Smokes, the acclaimed longtime local journalist who added "radio talk show host" to her resume at Power 620 (WHEN) just six weeks before she passed away on Wednesday. Updated 7:45pm with more details -- SYRACUSE -- Journalist and radio host Saundra Smokes, who just started a new talk show on Power 620 (WHEN) in June, passed away today. According to published reports, Smokes collapsed in her home on Monday and died today after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 57 years old.
SYRACUSE -- Unless you've got access to the full Arbitron Spring 2012 ratings report for Syracuse, it can be difficult to tell where the area's radio stations stacked up against each other. The numbers released to the public today include only 8 of the market's more than 30 stations.
