Syracuse Radio

Time flies when you’re having fun… hard to believe it’s been six months since the reincarnated CNYRadio.com went live.  This last month was a pretty busy one too… despite being a little out of the loop while taking a summer road trip, we managed to break a new record.  Details in our monthly look at

Platinum-selling national recording group “Tantric” recently stopped by the 95X (WAQX) studios in Syracuse.  The group posed for a few pictures including this one with midday DJ Alexis.  (Also read on for details on our POTW contest!)

Hot 107.9 recently hosted an “Estelle-abration Concert” featuring recording artist Estelle, who leaped to the top of the charts earlier this summer with “American Boy,” a duet with Kanye West.

An observant CNYRadio.com reader points out that Citadel Broadcasting of Syracuse has several job openings posted on a local job website.  Among them: a posting titled “95X Program Director.”  But the current PD isn’t leaving the station.

Sorry we’re a few days late on this one — it’s the first time we’ve had really good internet access during our summer vacation, so we just noticed Arbitron has released the P12+ ratings for the Syracuse and Utica-Rome markets.  It appears Clear Channel’s WBBS (B104.7) and Regent’s Lite 98.7 (WLZW) are the clear winners in

Now that the privatization of Clear Channel is complete, it’s time for CC Media to sell off 54 stations previously placed in the “Aloha Stations Trust,” and DeRuyter’s Nova 105.1 (WWDG) is on the list.

B104.7 morning co-host Ron Bee has been nominated for induction into the Disc Jockey Hall of Fame in Nashville, according to an e-mail sent to WBBS listener club members earlier today.

Because this Friday happens to be 08/08/08, we decided the Picture of the Week would come from a station that has an “8” in the frequency.  You can’t get any closer to an all-8 frequency than 88.9 WNYO at SUNY Oswego… and making it even better, 2008 has been a big year for WNYO.

A former WSYR employee tells CNYRadio.com that the Clear Channel news/talker has dropped legendary broadcaster Paul Harvey from their daily lineup. He also appears to be missing from the station’s website. (If you go to www.570wsyr.com and hover your mouse over “Shows” in the menu, Harvey’s name is gone.)

After a few rough years of morning show turnover — starting with the departure of Howard Stern, a short-lived replacement, and the coming and going of Opie and Anthony — Syracuse Citadel rocker 95X (WAQX) is nominated for two Industry Achievement Awards from Radio and Records magazine.
