SYRACUSE — This summer, reporter Leigh Isaacson will celebrate her two-year anniversary at NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) by leaving the ABC affiliate. Last night, Isaacson announced she has a new job lined-up at the Fox affiliate in New Orleans, Louisiana.

SYRACUSE — NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) anchor Tanja Babich said she’s “living the dream,” speaking at the podium during a naturalization ceremony in Syracuse today.  Babich was there because she was one of 38 people to become U.S. citizens during the ceremony.

SYRACUSE — Average viewers might not have ever heard of Bill Eadie, but he had plenty of notable achievements during his 34-year career in Syracuse television.  We’re sorry to share the news that Eadie passed away on Thursday at the age of 79.

SYRACUSE — When the regional Emmy Awards were handed out this past weekend, only one Central New York station took home a trophy.  Congratulations to public broadcaster WCNY-TV on taking home the award for best public affairs program for “Insight,” which airs every Friday at 9pm.

Updated 4/16 — CENTRAL NEW YORK — In the hours after the Boston Marathon bombings, we’re learning how some Central New York broadcasters who were in Boston today are faring.  Thankfully, all of the reports are positive.

SYRACUSE — If you’re looking for jobs in radio or television, WCNY and sister company Joint Master Control Operating Company (JMCO) have a variety of open positions.  The public broadcasting operation is hosting a job fair on April 17, at its brand new facilities on West Fayette Street in Syracuse.

STATE COLLEGE, PA — Congratulations are in order for Loren Tobia, former news director at Syracuse CBS affiliate WTVH (1998 to 2005).  After WTVH, Tobia went to work in sales for AccuWeather, and this past week, he was promoted to Executive Director of Sales for the company’s Display Systems and Services division.

SYRACUSE — Did you hug a news anchor yesterday?  If not, you may have to wait until “National Hug a News Anchor Day” comes around again next year.  A couple of local stations observed the “holiday” and shared video online.

Updated 4/5 — ATLANTA — For the first time since 2003, the Syracuse University men’s basketball team has reached the Final Four of the NCAA tournament. Several local radio and TV stations have dispatched crews to Atlanta to cover the team’s next game on Saturday… and hopefully they’ll have a reason to stick around for the

SYRACUSE — Mark your calendars for September 7.  That’s the date for the 8th annual Bill Leaf Memorial Kickball Tournament.  Along with the new date (it’s usually been held later in September), the tournament will have a new home this year, a few miles away from the original location.
