SYRACUSE -- Chances are pretty good that, if one listens to classical music radio, one has some degree of interest in the arts. This past weekend, Classic FM (WCNY-FM) debuted a new series of local programs "devoted to Central New York arts and culture." Arts Talk premiered on Sunday evening, but if you missed it, you'll have several other opportunities to listen.
SYRACUSE -- Management at KISS-FM say they're almost finished rebuilding following a fire that destroyed their studios almost one year ago. But when the internet stream and Part 15 transmitters come back online, they won't be covering the Syracuse area. Instead, station management tells CNYRadio.com they're heading north, preparing to do battle in the Watertown market.
ITHACA -- Progressive Talk 1470 (WNYY) announced today it's bringing nationally-syndicated hosts Bill Press, Randi Rhodes and Alan Colmes to town. The "Fair and Unbalanced" show at Ithaca's Hangar Theatre is set for September 24 and tickets will go on sale this Saturday at 10am.
SYRACUSE -- They worked in the same Syracuse radio cluster almost ten years ago, and soon they'll be working together again -- in Arkansas. Oswego native Jamie Vivlemore -- better-known as JJ Ryan -- tells CNYRadio.com he's enjoying a recent promotion, and he's hired another former Syracuse broadcaster as one of his first official moves in the new role.
UTICA/ROME -- After a few years away from radio, former Syracuse news anchor Jules Thompson will be returning to the airwaves later this month. He's just been hired as News Director for Townsquare news/talker WIBX 950. And Thompson's arrival will allow the current ND to move down the hall into a new role of his own.
SYRACUSE -- The newest face on the news team at NewsChannel 9 is actually a familiar face, both to the ABC affiliate and to local viewers. Tammy Palmer recently made the jump back to broadcast television, after a few years anchoring at Time Warner Cable's YNN.
BOLTON LANDING -- Earlier this week, we reported that Central New York TV and radio stations fared well at the New York State Broadcasters Association's annual awards banquet. Today, we look back at an evening that was especially memorable for longtime NewsChannel 9 co-anchors Rod Wood and Carrie Lazarus.
SYRACUSE -- Time Warner Cable's 24/7 local news channel, YNN, has an opening for a web producer. Much like another job posting from ABC affiliate WSYR-TV earlier this week, the job entails repurposing broadcast news stories and video for the station website.
Updated 6/30 -- ITHACA -- ROI Broadcasting's Z95.5 (WFIZ) is looking for a new morning co-host and Program Director, according to a job announcement posted earlier this week. According to station management, current PD/morning co-host Corey is getting ready to move onto his next opportunity.
