ITHACA - We're a couple days late on this one: W254BF, the former Power 106.9 (WPHR) translator located at 98.7 on the FM dial in Ithaca, is indeed being sold by Clear Channel to Saga Communications. We told you last week that Saga used the outlet to launch a new AAA-formatted station branded as "98.7 The Vine."
SYRACUSE -- Former Ithaca morning show host Mark Vanness excitedly writes CNYRadio.com today: "I got a J-O-B!" Not only did he find a way to get back into radio on a full-time basis; he's making a rather significant market rank jump as well.
Updated 9/17 with arrangements - UTICA-ROME -- NBC affiliate WKTV is reporting the death of retired local broadcaster Jack Fredericks, at the age of 84. Fredericks spent most of his long career at the TV station atop Smith Hill, but he broke into the business while he was still in high school, as an announcer for WIBX.

His last regular show will be this Friday.

SYRACUSE -- When the new season of Saturday Night Live begins later this week (with a special set to air Thursday, actually), you could be hearing jokes written by local comedian/DJ Josh Grosvent. He's been hired as a contributing writer for the long-running sketch show's "Weekend Update" segment.
UTICA-ROME -- Jesse Jordan has been dropped from the lineup at Roser CHR Kiss-FM (WSKS/WSKU). The midday personality, who also doubled as Promotions Director, says she was let go because she refused to be moved to the morning drive timeslot.

His broadcasting career spanned more than three decades, most of it at 1030 James Street, dating back to the days when channel 3 was WSYR-TV and it shared the building with WSYR 570.
