The Pennsylvania-based company that owned Galaxy's Utica-Rome cluster for a short time in 2004, is now history. "Route 81 Radio" has been taken over by one of it's own primary investors following a foreclosure sale, reports Scott Fybush in this week's NorthEast Radio Watch. Route 81 no longer has any properties in Central New York, but we thought it would be fun to take a quick look back at its brief stay in U-R.
Nearly a month ago, we told you how WBLH/Black River (92.7FM) was LMA'ed from Randy Michaels' Radioactive, LLC to a company called Intrepid Broadcasting. At that time, it was just a construction permit, but now we're hearing that the station seems to be stunting with some rather obscure music selections.
It's America's Biggest 15K Road Race, with over 10,000 runners, including Governor David A. Paterson. Nearly every radio station in the Utica-Rome market was there, so we put everyone's name in a hat and KISS-FM came out as the station to represent the Boilermaker in this installment of the Picture of the Week.
The Utica Observer-Dispatch has an article about the upcoming K-Rockathon. Here's the article. "K-Rockathon XIII" is, as you may have guessed, hosted by Galaxy Communications' triplet of K-Rock stations. They are 100.9 WKRL North Syracuse, 106.5 WKRH Minetto, and 94.9 WKLL Utica.
Former 95X PD Steve Brill has been named Ops Manager for Citadel's 5-station cluster in Des Moines, Iowa, according to R&R. (We originally said GM because they did, but they've since changed their article.)
And a reliable source tells us there's a new GM at Citadel's Syracuse cluster, but did not have any further details. If you do, please e-mail us at cnyradio (at) cnyradio.com. As always, if you want us to keep your name out of it, we will.

Shortly after Bob Costas finishes doing his part to help NBC produce 3600 hours of Olympics coverage in Beijing next month, he's expected to return to Syracuse to receive a special honor.
Apparently Citadel's decision to drop "Opie & Anthony" from the 95X lineup yesterday, replacing it with a music-intensive show branded as "Shut Up and Rock" was a surprise to O&A themselves.
Citadel rocker 95X (WAQX) has once again changed its morning show. Effective today, the syndicated Opie & Anthony Show is out, and locally-programmed "Shut Up & Rock Mornings" are in. WAQX had carried the O&A show since January 2007.
