Controversial radio talk show host Michael Savage was let go from his weekend show on the MSNBC television cable news channel this week after referring to a caller as a "sodomite" and wishing he would "get AIDS and die."
Savage's syndicated radio show airs in Syracuse on 570 WSYR and on NewsTalk 920 (WKRT) in Cortland.
96.9 WOUR officially turned 30 on June 3rd, but the party to celebrate the milestone runs all summer as the Clear Channel rocker has special events planned through September.
Without much fanfare, WRUN 1150 AM switched formats last week. The Utica-Rome station, which has gone through several format changes over the past few years, is now carrying ABC's Stardust satellite network and is being branded locally as "Velvet 1150, your unforgettable memories station."
They were "just having fun" and didn't expect to make it past the first round, but Plan 607 won the whole shooting match in this year's K-Rock battle of the bands. The band picked up $1,000, studio time at Utica's Fat Boy Studios, and will open the 2003 K-Rockathon.

It looks like the annual K-Rockathon concert will not be returning to the Oswego Speedway but instead may head back to Vernon Downs.
Concert promoter Chuck Chao has applied for a permit for the concert on August 16 at the Vernon racetrack. But Galaxy Communications' vice president Mimi Griswold says there are no firm plans yet for a site, date, or the lineup of bands.
