SYRACUSE -- Nationally-syndicated talk show host Michael Savage will be absent from News Talk 106.9 and 570 WSYR and hundreds of other affiliates across the country until further notice, after the California-based host won a long-running lawsuit with his former syndicator, Talk Radio Network.
SYRACUSE -- It was a star-studded evening last night at the SRC Arena, on the campus of Onondaga Community College. ABC affiliate NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) celebrated its 50th anniversary with a celebration attended by hundreds... including dozens of past and present employees. SYRACUSE -- Citing some recent events in her personal life, Mimi Griswold announced plans to retire from her duties as Vice President of Programming for Syracuse-based radio operator Galaxy Communications at the end of this year. Griswold will continue to host Blue Moon Cafe, and she'll serve as a programming consultant.
SYRACUSE -- The competition to be named among the "Best of Syracuse" was considerably intense for local broadcasters this year. For whatever reason, the Syracuse New Times drastically cut back on the number of broadcast-related categories for its annual contest. This year's awards, based on reader-submitted votes, include only one category each for TV and radio.

They're the folks behind the scenes who keep an eye out for things that might be newsworthy, and decide how the station's going to get it all covered. UTICA/ROME -- For the past three years, Mix 102.5 (WUMX) has been programmed by people who already have other duties at Syracuse-based Galaxy Communications. Now, "it's time for Mix to have its own PD," says VP/Programming Mimi Griwsold. She's taking applications for the job, which will include on-air shifts.
Updated 12:50pm -- SYRACUSE -- After more than a decade on 93Q (WNTQ), "DC on the Radio" has exited the Cumulus Media CHR-formatted station. Dennis Crawford's last show happened earlier this month, though he says he didn't know it was going to be his last show.
SYRACUSE -- September started with some notable "comings and goings" in local TV news, and the month appears to be ending with more changes. After two and a half years with CNY Central, multimedia journalist and anchor Jessica Cain says she's leaving her post and heading to the midwest.
UTICA-ROME -- Longtime residents of Rome remember when WKAL's studios were located within the Capitol Theatre on West Dominick Street. The theatre and the radio station were both originally owned by the Kallet family, hence the call letters. Rod Foote worked for WKAL from 1967 to 1972, and he recently discovered a treasure from his days at "Radio 145."
UTICA-ROME -- Longtime local media personality Bill Keeler is making another comeback. This time, he's back on TV, with a cooking show that'll premiere this Saturday on NBC affiliate WKTV.
