SYRACUSE -- Before 93Q (WNTQ) and what is now The Score 1260 (WSKO) joined up with 95X (WAQX) and what is now 105.9 The Rebel (WXTL) in their present-day studios on James Street in Syracuse, 93Q and 1260 WNDR were located on Old Stone House Road in Jamesville.
SYRACUSE -- There's been a trio of changes within the West Kirkpatrick Street studios of MOViN' 100.3/96.5 (WMVN) and New Country WOLF 105.1. Station Manager Sam Furco tells CNYRadio.com that WOLF-FM middayer Chili Palmer is leaving for a new job. MOViN' afternoon man Brandon C. is getting a promotion. And the latter station is adding Billy Bush for nights.
SYRACUSE -- The annual "Great TV Auction," more commonly known as TelAuc, returns to WCNY one week from tonight. During a total of eight nights over two weekends, viewers will have the chance to score some big bargains, with proceeds from winning bids benefiting the PBS affiliate's continued operation.
SYRACUSE -- Yankees fans will be happy to note that weekday afternoon games have returned to Syracuse radio. Last year, the Bronx Bombers were carried exclusively on WSYR-AM/FM -- skipping weekday afternoon games in favor of Rush Limbaugh. This year, the Clear Channel cluster has reinstated its pre-2011 policy. According to on-air announcements, day games are back on sister station Power AM 620 (WHEN).
SYRACUSE -- Just within the past year, golf pro Perry Noun's been up and down the dial, on both the AM and FM bands. When his weekly golf show begins its 11th season this Saturday, he'll be on his third new station in just a little more than a year. Golf fans will find "Tee Time With the Pronoun" on Love Radio 103.9 (WVOA-FM).
SYRACUSE -- Popular celtic punk band Flogging Molly will make its first-ever visit to Syracuse next month. They're on the schedule for "Dysfunctional Family BBQ 6," hosted by K-Rock (WKRL/WKRH/WKLL) on May 27 at the New York State Fairgrounds.
Updated 11:40pm -- SYRACUSE -- CBS affiliate WTVH is back in service on channel 5, after a component failure forced some over-the-air and satellite viewers to find another way to watch CBS programming for a few days this week. The outages have been a recurring problem, and this is the first time management offered specifics on the situation.
UTICA -- Typical "small market" TV stations are often described as "revolving doors" in the TV news biz... many rookie reporters just want to build a good resume tape and move to a bigger market. WKTV, however, has long been an exception. Quite a few staffers have called WKTV home for years, even decades. Primary anchor Bill Worden just reached 35 years with the NBC affiliate.
OSWEGO -- NPR affiliate WRVO has a new Director of News and Public Affairs. The station says Catherine J. Loper has been appointed to the post, which had been vacant since Dave Bullard exited the station last fall. Loper brings 20 years of broadcast journalism experience to the table.
ALBANY -- The New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association has named finalists for its 2011 radio and TV awards. NYSAPBA will reveal first place winners and "special mention" winners at its annual awards banquet in June.
